Hello all,

I don't know if I should post this here, but anyway. I purchased hl2 last week in Spain, and installed it over steam, everthing works fine.
The language spoken obviously is spanish and here I my curiosity starts:
Usually on fps the main character gives some nice talk while shooting and walking around (like in Blood2 - awesome talk - Serious Sam,etc...i know old games, but pearls.. :angel: ). I could not detect any talk in HL2 when Freeman runs trough the chapters, he's dumb like a tombstone, just the friends talk. I was wondering if in english the same happens, or maybe the spanish translation just skipped the whole thing, I do not know.
Also, is there a possibility to have the game installed in english, even though the purchased DVD is a spanish one? I just like to listen to the characters in their original native language. Maybe a file exists which allows you to switch to another language ?

Ok, that was enough for now. If anybody would know for instance if this is possible for hl2 (language switch) I'll be more then ready to listen :)
Thank you all and best regards,
Saludos,
Kenshiro

Freeman never talks. As for the second question, I don't know.

Keep in mind he will need a new sound file for every single piece of conversation. Which in other words, that is simply No. Steam in english wont work.

In the Half-Life series of games Gordon never talks, because he's supposed to be YOU, he's supposed to think what you think, he's not supposed to put words into the players mouth, its the other way around.

As for playing hl2 in another language, yes, infact there is a feature that changes all the dialog and menus to English, Spanish, French, Russian, German, etc. Just click the settings button on the bottom of steam, go to the language tab and choose what language you want, restart steam, and wait for it to download all the voice files, there's a vast number of languages but not all of them change the dialog. This WILL change the language of the menus too so remember what's what.

Ok, got it guys ! I'll try it with steam then :) Thank you for all the answers. Would be fun though that Freeman, says "ouch" or cheers or whatever from time to time - to add a little bit of fun. Just a thought heheh.
Anway, thanx again and take care all,
Ciao!

You don't have to reinstall steam to change the language.

File -> Settings -> Language

weather or not this will then update your games to the new language you have selected is anyone's guess.

Edit: mmmm that'll teach me for not reloading a page before posting :)
