hey guys i need ur help. i run the game at 2.0 ghz, 512 mb, and 128 mb ati radeon 9800pro and the game doesnt run smoothly. I played around wit the ingame settings. i even put the vid settings on the recommended settings for my system and it still doesnt run smoothly. i also messed around wit the ati settings on my computer. at first i had problems running the game and now it doesnt run smoothly. i first noticed it not playin the game but on the valve screen. it was spikin and shakin a bit. when i started a new game where gman was talkin it was spikin a bit and when i started movin freeman the same thing. i dont know what else to do.

same prob

i have almost exactly the same set up and problem....it drives me nuts

it just sorta freezes and sketches out for a few seconds. and its so frustrating, i have a 2.5 P4, 512 Ram, Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB.
and i dont kno what to do to fix it, in the system stress i avg like 70 FPS but cant seem to get it to run smooth in the actual game, with CS: Source either.....if anyone can help please reply or refer me to another thread i may have not seen ;(

I have the same problem with 1024 ram and a 9800 pro 128.

I have the same problem, but it worked fine in the beginning of the game, I could even run the game with everything on high, 6*AA and 16*AF without fps drops. But on the chapter ''follow freeman'' the framerate drops below playable even with no AA, no AF, simple reflections and textures and models at medium.
My system:
p4 3.2 ghz
1024 MB RAM
ati radeon 9800 non pro (overclocked)

i guess we all have the same problems but no solutions lol. can someone help us out. as you can see we have problems. vlave better have a freakin good patch.

I would say..get rid of your crappy Radeon, and get a geforce 6.

you're not alone

lots of people are having this problem, myslef included, and i'm running on a 6800 ultra. it's more a sounds issue, the game isn't preloading any sounds, so any time it needs a sound it loads it on the fly and pauses. there are various tweak suggestions out there that you can try. check www.tweakguides.com, they have some hl2 tweaks that I hear really work. won't know til tonight.

For the people with ATI cards, make sure that under the Advanced Tab of Display Properties in Windows your Anti-Aliasing and Anisotriscopic Filtering settings are set to "Let the Application Decide".

For people using SB Audigy's, try lowering the sound specs. If you are using 5.1, that is a huge drain on your system, and it screws HL2 up.

Another problem could be caused if you're using the CD / DVD verison of the game. There have been alot of reports of this happening.

I have: p4 3.2 ; 1GB Dual-Channel DDR ; ATI 9600 Pro 128MB ; 200 & 160 GB SATA HDD ; STEAM verison of HL2

With this setup, I can run HL2 @ 1600x1200 w/ 4x Anti-Aliasing at full frame rate.
