Forum request number 3!

A sub-forum on the General Gaming board for use in setting up and organising games. Start a thread called 'BF2 game lol' and post the time, IP, password, et-cetera. Have a sticky with a link to some multiple-timezone translater clock website thing so people can work out what their foreign chums mean when they say 8PM. It would be cool.

Pwease?

edit: ZOMG I MADE A SPELLING MISTAKE IN THE TITLE D:
FOR SHAAAAAME D:

We need this, and we need it right the **** now.

The Big Sunday Fight was teh pwn. I agree with sir Sulkdodds.

We need this more than we need Shens. Well, maybe not that much...
but yeah, that would be eeexcellent. The Big Sunday Fight was phenomenal fun.

I agree. This forum would really help. Easier than having a thread 10 pages long imo. :)

agreed, how about our own hl2net bf2 server? :O

dont we have a cs:s and hl2dm one? does anyone use them?

Good idea, it would inspire a lot of people who rarely game online to join in with people they are familiar with.

Does this include any game? (within reason obviously.)

We need this more than the world needs chuck norris.

(Now if only i owned bf2 or wasn't vac banned....)

yes please. I think it will bring the community together, and will also give new members a chance to be intergrated and to get to know them. Mod energies spent on politics = transfered to announcement forum to keep it nice and clean.

Really...this is a good idea, it works well on...other forums ;)

If it's good enough for thatubersecretplacethatnobodyevertalksaboutbecausewhenyoudobadstuffhappsnssshhhlolfreefoxtrothetairoopsalmostsaidit then it's damn well good enough for us.

Isn't that what IRC is for?

If you're looking for an instantaneous method of sharing information -specifically with the HL2.net community- I'd guess #halflife2 on irc.quakenet.org would be a better method of doing this than spamming the forums and wasting a whole lot of bandwidth. Think about it: if you wanted to get people who are interested in playing a game together in one place on the forums you'd start a thread and wait for people's replies, the time delay is significant compared to IRC. On the other hand on IRC you'd simply open a random temporary chatroom (maybe getting an operator to stick it in the #halflife2 welcome topic for any latecomers to see) and hey presto! You have everyone together in one place, you're not wasting bandwidth, you're not whoring your postcounts, you don't have to worry about site outage and if you've configured a custom IRC client properly you'll be able to click on the IP and join the game at the click of a button FTW!!!!ONE

not everyone will be on irc at the same time ... duh
a bf2 server would be awesome (ranked :E)
dunno if it'll happen - but the css one died quickly when at the moment there is genuine demand for a teamplay game server for the likes of bf2

what say you munro?

Ah, now I see the problem. Fair enough.

Why not just have a weekly (or twice weekly) meet with res slots or something? Sign up for res slots in a thread during the week, with anyone not turning up on time losing their res slot to a pubber (or someone who couldn't get on the res slot list). Of course, you'd need pretty dedicated admins for that to happen, and I don't play on the HL2.net servers so I don't know whether that would work.

For games that aren't supported by the HL2.net servers this thread idea is the best bet, certainly. And it gives you somewhere to give an anecdotal postgame breakdown of everyone's exploits, which would definitely help the community.

'xactly. Plus the auth process on the IRC channel is ridiculous and annoying as hell.

edit: If there were worries about postcount whoring, surely it would be possible make 'em not count in such a forum?

if post-count whoring was a problem then the politics forum would have been closed ages ago... ;)

Btw, if the europeans here want a server they can get together for css on then they could try the Halflife2.net|Clan one, its pretty silly being the semi-official clan when hardly any of you guys pop on :p

Wtf why are you VAC banned :|
I had hacking tools on my hdd and apparently vac scans for em
I never used em though :/
It really sucks not being able to play css anymore just cuz of that
(especially since i've put well over 200 bucks into valve games :p)

It's basically gonna BF2, I guess.

I agree completely.

And.....for my birthday I'm going to get a server and make it a HL2.net one, one of thoose where you can swap the game its on.

Expect it early march!

Totally get a sub-forum,

We Demand It /cool animatrix quote from the machines

Guys, this kind of thing has been suggested before.

This time i DEMAND it happen!

If not, i will poach all of you and have you join -=256=-! :p

seems like a waste of a perfectly good idea if you limit it to one game. It also decreases likeliness of it being approved

well rotate the game hosted on the server - css and hl2dm most of the time with bf2 on Sundays and Saturday

Well, he meant mostly BF2 I guess. Obviously it could be whatever game you want. "Who wants to play Worms 2?"

I like the sounds of this, so gonna go with the flow and say aye.

O.O

I DO!!

oh, and i think that i made the pic of when you were trying do distroy the helo with your grenade launcher into wallpaper size. you want it?

A dedicated forum isn't needed for it yet. We could get a gaming server but some people would need to chip in.

I'll have to PM you about something me and a few others have been brewing for the site {directed at Munro}.

OT: I agree with our demi-pirate Sulk it would be a good thing, maybe something like a shout box for each game type, not a whole forum??

And require more effort to integrate into the site. Whereas creating a new forum is a flick of a switch.

But Dan! It's not something that's 'needed' but it is something that's 'wanted'. Even without our own gaming server it would mean people could easily arrange games amongst each other and do it a week in advance if they really felt it necessary. It would be fun as hell, very easy to create/integrate/maintain (unlike a bona fide 'game announcement' system here) and even though there's no poll (stupid me) it's clear it's a feature a lot of people would enjoy. Consider: there are two threads in the Sin Episodes forum and the last post was by me on the 15th...and you don't want a game arrangement forum because it 'isn't needed'? :(

Simply a place to arrange random games, and not needing to tie in to any organised HL2.net clan activity or getting our own server or anything like that - although of course, it might make such things easier.

i fully agree with Sulks here, the SiN Eps has its own site that could be discussed there, plus there has been a sudden urge to play with members of the forum and there is no easier way of organizing this than a dedicated forum...

PLEASE MUNRO! /puppy eyes :E
