Game play issues

System is up to par, had no problems with installation. Go to play HL and it sits at a loading screen. After about 30 secs system freezes.... any ideas??

Athlon xp2400+ 7200rpm
512 mem
120gb hd
radeon 9000 128mb

Tried reinstall numorous times....same issue. Tried playing counter strike...same issue.

i'm really dissapointed. half life 2 sounds like an awesome game however, how am i supposed to play the damn thing? i bought it, only to find u need an internet connection just to play singleplayer..... i'm not going to have net access on my pc for at least a year (i'm on the net at a netcafe) so i guess that money is wasted. i think its stupid for the valve and steam to autmatically assume everyone has an internet connection!

Why don't you have an internet connection? If you read the evil fine print on the box it says that you must have an internet connection to play.

Well, the only option I can thing of is to reinstall Steam :/ My friend had the same problem, couldn't load up HL2 or HL2DM so he reinstalled steam and all was well again.

Tried that as well....nothing.
Just tried to play deathmatch. It started to download from the client then froze!? This sucks!

Could there be some issues with firewalls not allowing steam to pass info or what?

unfortunately i saw it also on cs:s, it was someones spray

Are you sure you are not having heat issues? This game does/can tax a video card. When it freezes and you have to reboot check your temps in the bios.
