How do I set refresh rates for my games that don't allow selecting a refresh rate? Do I set my computer to the resolution and then select a refresh rate in Windows?

I'm just sort of annoyed because the refresh rate is too slow and my monitor can get up to 120Hz. Plus the graphics "seem" slow when the refresh rate is low.

Games:

* Max Payne 2
* Morrowind
* Beyond Good & Evil

Etc.

Go to any driver/graphics page (ie driverheaven) and find a refresh rate override fix... Windows has a pretty ugly bug, that forces 60hz in many games. And I assume you are running at a resolution that can have for instance 120hz, not just that "it can handle 120hz", the higher figures are often for lower res...

Yes, it can run 120hz on 1024x768 and 80hz @ 1600x1200.

Thanks!

Unless you run in window mode, I think you have to change the setting ingame.
I know for BF1942 there is some file you can modify a line and it displays all resolutions/refresh rates in the video option menu ingame.

Good thing is, more and more games are coming with a refresh rate selection in the options. Its the old ones that are a problem.

If you have an nVIDIA card, its pretty easy.

Right click desktop -> Properties -> Settings Tab -> Advanced button -> *name of card* tab -> Refresh rate overrides in the side panel -> Override refresh rates tabby clicky box.

I'm running 53.03 if it matters, no idea how to do it with an ATi card, but probably would be similar.

ati catalyst 4.1s come with a refresh override as well, so you should be able to sort yourself no probs...

open up your advanced display settings (im sure oyu know how to do that), then click on the display tab, then the click on monitor... at the bottom of the new window there is an option to select a refresh rate which will stay constant..
