Games are crashing my PC.

OK, I recently formatted my computer because Black and White 2 all of a sudden started running REALLY slowly, and I was thinking about it anyway so I did it. However, since re-installing windows along with everything else, Black and White 2 and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 [the only two I've tried so far] are both crashing my computer after roughly 10/20 minutes of gameplay. So far I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling my display driveres and checked my CPU temperature but both of those haven't solved the problem [my CPU temp seems to level at 51 degrees].

I have an:

AMD Athlon 64 2.0 Ghz
Asus K8V SE motherboard
ATI Radion 9800 [with the latest drivers installed]
1 gig of Ram
Soundblaster Audigy 4 [with latest driveres installed]

If someone could help me resolve this, I would be extremely grateful.

Steve.

I take it you installed the latest motherboard drivers right after you installed windows, then installed everything else?

I have looked on their website, but to me it's not clear which are the drivers and which are random other files that I don't know about - don't deal too much with motherboards you see, I'm a graphic designer :p

check the fan on your graphics card, could be that the fan is spinning slower than usual and is allowing the card to get alittle too hot and crash you out of the games. Also do you get any error messages when teh game does crash because that might give us a clue to what the problem may be. Also do you notice anything unusual about the game before it crashes, like does teh music start to skip, or does it just crash out imediately. Also do you notice any graphical corruption like artifacts before it crashes.

Most people dont deal with motherboards, thats why I'm here

I take it this is your board:

http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=14&l3=67&model=235&modelmenu=1

If so then download these files:

http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/utils/4in1_449.zip

You will probably also need these audio drivers:

http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/audio/ad1980/ad1980_1888_51225280_64bit.zip

For best results you might want to uninstall all your drivers then install the via 4 in 1 drivers then the audio driver then you videocard/soundcard and whatever else.

I always install these after a format so I'm not sure how everything will turn out.

You are right about the drivers on the site. It is not very easy to find what you need. I suggest going to windows update after installing everything to make sure you have all of your obscure drivers for LAN and other things as the site lists various LAN and RAID drivers in seperate packages.

Oh and can you see anything missing on your system right now? Do you have all your ethernet ports working? Check the device manager to see if anything is not installed. Right click on my computer, then go to the tab that says hardware, then click device manager and look for red X's on a device or any yellow symbols.

Black and white 2 seems to have sorted itself out, but rollercoaster tycoon 3 still crashes but I'm wondering if it was my computer or it's just that game, althoguh it never used to - I cleaned out the computer [literally, it was caked in dust] and things seem to be fine now.

There was no error message or anything, it'd literally crash - my monitor would give me the no signal being recieved message then go black, and then the monitor light'd go from green to orange and i'd actually have to press restart for the computer to come back on.

There are a few things not installed properly in my hardware devices:

There's a Marvell Yukon blah blah blah Ethernet Controller that's disabled - I think this was my on-board network card, or something else irrelivant, and there is also a RAID controller that's disabled, but also has the questionmark on it - but I don't think any of these could be causing any problems? I just don't use RAID...

Oh, and that definatly is my motherboard - thanks for the help with determining which drivers to instal - I've not done it this time, cause like you said it's best to do it fresh from a format, but I've downloaded them and when I buy my new hard drive [and throw this annoying 40GB, that once seemed so big, out the window] and install windows all over again, I'll have them on my external hard drive :D

Whats the 3rd party manufacturer of your graphics card?

I would of narrowed it down to your graphics card if it CTD, Ram if it freezes, or PSU if the whole thing turns itself off
