Games developers should make

Instead of wasting their time on shit like halo 2, what would you like to see those bastards make?

At the moment i've got my fingers crossed for soldier of fortune 3 with ghoul 3 and based on the doom 3 engine.

Or better yet the unreal engine 3, or possibly something else with a 3 in it.

A new Morrowind on Source (it's the perfect engine for this job)

And the thought of SoF3 makes me wanna cry... ;(
If that horror ever comes to life, then please no Doom 3 engine.

I would like to see Bungie make a new Marathon, that is just like the old one, not a crappy, its sort of like it and we use the symbol, called HALO. But since there are not enough of the same people that work at bungie anymore that worked on Marathon, i kinda wouldnt want them to feck it up.

What are you talking about?

You mean instead of 'wasting' time making a sequal to one of the most popular games ever, they should make another sequal to the complete crap and mediocrity that is Soldier of Fortune?? Did you play SoF2? While it was ok online, the single player was dire. (Anyone who rates it over Halo is in the vast minority. And rightly so)

The Unreal 3 engine looks very good but, as someone else pointed out, if the game turns out anything like Unreal 2 (even worse than SoF2, if you can believe that!) then it will be a massive waste.

Hopefully we'll see a repeat of the original Unreal - I can still remember the time I first stepped from the ship and walked about the Unreal world :) No other game, even HL, has been able to capture that same sense of wonder since.

You sir, are no fun.

SOF 3 would be amazing, you could rip people's lungs out with a machete and all the bloody chunks of brain and organs could be per-pixel lighted.

The only change i would make is to sam fischer (sp). With a game with this much badass gore it needs a lead character who is portrayed as some kind of unhinged psychopath, not some boring generic mercenary-type who looks more at home dancing to the YMCA. A moustache in this age of stereotypes, what were those game developers thinking? The only person who ever looked cool with a moustache was hitler (jk).

Also there could be none of this tired world domination by implausible virus plot business, sam fischer just wants to kill everybody. Nuns, little school girls, the pope, everybody.

It was a joke based on the fact that halo has the most rabid fanboys (probably because it is the only decent game on the xbox).

Anyway, sof 2 and unreal were both vastly superior to the pc version of halo. Even far cry runs better. And don't get me started on the 15 identical alien temple levels, stupid ****ing pinecone shaped aliens, and generic plastic-looking bump-mapping over bland textures.

developer 1: so yeah, we need more gore when the player rips open an enemy's chest cavity, reaches in and pulls out their lungs.

developer 2: you did add the "spawn extremely_gory_yet_physically_simulated_colon* to the mix right? how it flies out and wraps around the player's peripheral vision, squirting blood and undigested food all around...

Developer 1: yeah but it still needs that extra... oomph to really show that the m'fer your messing up gets what he deserves...

Developer 2: hmmm... you made it so that after you rip out his lungs that the body starts convulsing into spasms and their eyes explode, shooting streams of blood from their empty eye sockets, nose and ears right?

Developer 1: yeah we even made them wet themselves in the process.

Developer 2: well shit, then it's easy, spray brain matter out of his chest and you have a winner.

Developer 1: Eureka!

Sounds thrilling .

I would love to see something like Aliens vs Predator on the Source engine with vehicles and stuff, and also, a new Wing Commander game or a game worthy enough to follow on from it in the space sim genre.

I would like 2 see a ww2 mmorpg, like planetside but 100x better & BIGGER, with real citys and towns. Think band of brothers and your 1 of the soldiers.
I know soldner has tryed to do this type of thing but as i can see from its failed.
I know at the moment our computer systems and servers wont be able to handle the amount of detail we want from these type of games, but maybe within 5-10 years time we will have photo realistic gfx and a game world that resembles our own world, where you can do what you like or be who you want 2 be.

And because this type of game would take so long to make by the time its finished it would be out of date, The only way i can see this working is if game develpment companys combine all thier efforts 2 make the ultimate game.
Or if we create a super AI to make the game for us, But thats another kettle of fish (we all seen terminator).

Note: educate yourself before pulling stuff out of your ass. Halo PC was PORTED to PC by Gearbox. Gearbox did a PISS-POOR job of it, adding a whole bunch of slow PS 2.0 shaders, which is nearly the only reason why it runs so slow. There are ways to make it run on PS1.4 or 1.1, which make it run unbelievably faster (I get a 50fps increase by degrading to PS1.4).

"15 identical alien temple levels" -- Partly Microsoft's fault for forcing Bungie to rush the game. They only had up to about level 6 when Microsoft said "Okay, you've gotta release this in four months, finish it up." So they took AotCR, PoA and a couple other levels and turned them around so they could make the deadline. And the Library was going to be much better, but Bungie couldn't get the level to run well as it used to be, so they had to change it.

"stupid ****ing pinecone shaped aliens" -- You're entitled to your own opinion. I found the aliens to be awesome. Same thing for graphics. I think they were awesome. There's a reason why the game got such a high graphics score in so many reviews.

Comments by paragraph:

1) So tell me again, how exactly does gutting people make a game good? Did HL let you gut people's lungs out and suffocate them with their entrails? Was it good nonetheless?

2) No, what we DON'T need is more generic stereotypical lead characters with everyday formulated personalities with absolutely no originality, ever.

3) Wow. *shakes head*

@Razor: That would be really cool. A new AVP with moody lighting, physics, sound... That would scare the sh** out of me :)

Nasum scares me.....

Personally, I think your a phyco. Why would making a game gory with lots of phycopaths in it make in any way fun unless you are phyco. :|

Look, sir, you have taken what i said greatly out of context. Maybe its not your fault, perhaps english isn't your first language and as such its subtle nuances have escaped you. My post was at best a tongue-in-cheek appraisal and does not warrant such harsh criticism.

However, even when taking this into account your criticisms are unfounded. Allow me to take some time to educate you, sir.

I can not for the life of me imagine why you would want to defend a game developer for making a shoddy game. IT'S THEIR FAULT. It doesn't matter if gearbox made the halo port or bill gates pulled it out of his ass, my criticism still applies. Why should we make allowances for developers when they charge us money to play their shitty games. I mean where does it end?

"Its not Gabe's fault half life 2 sucked, he was too fat to get out of bed"

Give me a break.

And I see the fact that halo was programmed with 2.0 in mind when it doesn't actually need it (at the cost of performance) as another example of why it is such a shoddy game.

By comment:-

1)Gore alone doesn't make a game good, but that wasn't implied. I was merely describing a single facet of gameplay. But I don't see why gore can't contribute to making a game good. I like my games gory (amongst others) and you like your penises hard. I would never criticise you for enjoying a long, throbbing member, so maybe you could extend me the same courtesy when I am expressing my love of explicit violence.

2)There you go again, assuming things. Why of course any character is bound to sound generic in a two-word description. Or may be you can express the sublties and nuances of character development in a two-word description (or may be you don't have a clue).

3) Yeah, i'd shake my head if i wrote out stuff like that too, sodomite.

/me reaches for 'Banned' button.

Damn. I'm not a mod. Yet.

Thats way out of line, Nasum. Whats your problem? I mean, what are you thinking; you started this conversation with "Instead of wasting their time on shit like halo 2, what would you like to see those bastards make?"

We really dont need people like you on these forums. This is why I come to Halflife2.net: its the most polite and interesting forum ive encountered yet.

Please: leave, or mature.

Edit: I posted before your last comment. Sorry. I would also like to state that you are in fact the troll. Thank you. That is all.

Again, by paragraph:

1) English is in fact my first language.
2) Think what you want.
3) My point was that it doesn't run poorly if you tweak it. If you took time out of your busy day and looked on the internet for five minutes, you'd come up with much more than a handful of sites that tell you EXACTLY how you can make it run well, and disable the PS2.0 shaders. (It's a one-line command in the Target of the shortcut; I'll leave it up to you to find out yourself.) So you, coming out and complaining that Halo runs so terribly, without bothering to find out why, is unfounded.
8) Funny how you think gore, of all things, is a gameplay facet. Gameplay facets are more along the lines of AI abilities, PC/NPC movement model, weapon selection, level design. A graphical touch, or in this case messy splatter, doesn't help gameplay at all. Graphics affect immersion... That is, if you think a soldier using a machete to rip someone's organs out and throw them on the floor to be "realistic."

And thanks for the unfounded gay jokes. Believe whatever you managed to "find out" by reading my post, I could really care less.

9) You win this time :hmph:.
10) Again with the gay jokes. Not needed. :dozey:

Now I'm pulling out of this flame war, before both of us get banned. You can continue trying to insult me; just don't ever expect a response.

I would like developers to make a sequal to Halo and stop making crap games like the sims and any tycoon game.

Make a huge online Half-life2, like anarchy or linage.

That would be cool if it was a MMOFPS and there was no gordon, you could be apart of the resistance or the combine. I could go on for paragraphs on how cool this game could be but just use your imagination.

It had been really cool, just add some stealing skills and mabye you could buy things there it had been awsome.

Only cool if you could play as a strider.

When I read Nasum's post I thought, "oh no another potty mouthed child"... but then I read further down, and he was obviously screwing with people's heads.
especially the comment about "per pixel lighting on brain matter" I laughed my ass off... it was obviously meant to be humorous.. cant we all just be friends?

kingpin 2, im glad they anounced it.

even though everyone else hated it.

I'd really like a turn based strategy title in the vein of Incubation/UFO made using a kick ass engine (Source would do :) )

I wanna be able to see through my troops eyes. Issue orders and freeze/slow down time, watch the bodies fly, zoom into the destruction or pan out to take in the glory of it all. Playing the game while being a movie director :)

What a friend and I concluded after watching one of the Unreal Engine 3.0 videos (where the character holds a lantern and walks around a dark corridor) is that they need to make a Diablo-type game (Diablo 3? :D) on that or a similar engine. It could be in 3rd-person view (like Tomb Raider, Max Payne, etc) instead of Diablo 1 and 2's camera view. I can imagine playing in dimly-lit dungeons, with the noises of unseen creatures in rooms and areas surrounding you. You may see eyes glowing ahead of you, or a shadow move by. Items that give a bonus to light radius would be much more valuable! Of course the whole game wouldn't take place in a single dark dungeon, but that's a scenario I think would be most impressive with a new engine. It would be beautiful.

I think it might be cool, I enjoyed the first one... sans the loading times :) and MP was great.. specially with the player customization options, man that was fun.

Why is everyone saying "they should make a sequel to XXX game"?

I want developers to come out of nowhere with some new idea and surprise me... though, I'd make some exceptions for story-based games like Half-Life 2 and Halo 2 (as long as the gameplay brings something new to the table) since it would be hard to fit all of the events into one game.

I want to see a new game as (or more) original in gameplay as Super Monkey Ball, Fable, Sacrifice, Pikmin, etc... instead of the 99th rehash of the same tried and true gameplay formula.

I know it is hard to make something new but an impressive original game is the sign of a great developer... not a Madden NFL 3510 or Generic FPS Bloodfest #9,821,635.

They need to make a game where you play rats. Rats with swords.

Idunno, I saw it on an animated movie once and it looked fun. Make it into a huge rat-sim that takes place in some guys house/yard. Gnaw your way inside and steal food (stealth, which would be AWESOME with giant humans lumbering around, hide behind a can of beans :D), I can imagine myself accidentally crawling into a spider's nest while attempting to escape a lawnmower... the lawnmower parks over the exit, forcing you to fight for your life with the poisonous, now extremely pissed, spider. Even have a dialog with it, try and wile your way out, spiders are meant to be smart.

Idunno, just planting seeds.

The only reason I mentioned Halo 2 is because the author of this thread was calling it crap.

That's the kind of idea I've been sitting on for a while, on top of numerous other wacky game ideas. Well, only a few are wacky, and I can't remember most of those few

One of my crazy ideas: An RTS where you control the internal systems of a human being. Mostly it would be about repelling infections, but you'd start out with the following "discovered" organs: a heart, a lung, stomach, liver, intestinal tract, arteries and veins, and a few bones in the body.

The heart controls the speed at which the cells move through the bloodstream. Bones produce blood cells. The lung supplies energy to keep cells alive. The stomach and intestine provide nutrients to create more cells with. The red blood cells transport oxygen and CO2 to/from organs from/to the lungs automatically. The white blood cells repel bacterial and viral infections automatically as well. However you would be able to choose routes for the cells and activate (for lack of a better term) "special abilities" like virus-specific countermeasures for the white blood cells, earned by defeating viruses and examining their biochemical structure.

With the nutrients, you can build new organs like arteries and veins, another lung, more bones, and others (to find new areas, get more net oxygen intake, and produce more cells), or upgrade existing organs such as the heart, liver and bones (faster movement, <no idea yet>, and ability to build better cells).

I really don't know what the point of the game would be though. Maybe a showdown against a plague or deadly virus at the end. Just a weird idea I wanted to throw out there :E

-----

Re: your idea...

I think that would be a hell of a fun time to play. The stealth function would be extremely useful too. Maybe as a gameplay element, to distract the humans you could set off a mouse trap in a room far away from an objective, so the humans would check it out, leaving the objective (a hunk of cheese or something) free for eating.

Even better, make it an MMOMSG (Massively Multiplayer Online Mouse Simulation Game), and have all the mice living in a hotel or something of the sorts. You could build separate mouse societies all trying to overtake the hotel, and avoiding things such as security guards, security cameras, room service (except when they bring food), and requiring teamwork to reach big objectives like claiming an entire hotel room, pushing back an opposing mouse society invasion, or raiding the hotel restaurant.

I'm full of ideas today :)

I wanted to make a mod like that for half-life but I am skilless lol. It would be team based and class based. You could be on the germ team or the immune system team(grr lack of vocabulary...feel retarded).

Hey, I came up with the human body RTS thing 4 years ago! Idea stealer!1!!11!

But I did really. Except my ideas were pretty bad. It is a really cool concept though.
