Games keep exiting out of themselves

Whenever I try to load any steam game, the game exits out of itself and brings me back to my desktop. Also, for some reason, any steam games I've played lag every two minutes or so. I don't know if it happens with other online games. Any help would be appreciated. Decided to put this here since I mostly only play CS now.

Hmm, Cheack your Router (if using one) or internet connection iv never had that lagg problem, And for the Steam crashing. Cheack System Requirments. Maby PC cant handle it.

But my PC never had trouble playing any of the games. I've mostly been playing pre-source games and they run fine, other than that lag every few minutes.

EDIT: Well...now the games are working again. But, the lag problem I could still use some help with. My connection is fine I believe.

Have you done anything diffrently since this problem, ex, Downloading files, custom skins ect?

Did it happen after the STEAM client update? Lots of people are having problems with HL1 games not opening up...

The lag was around before I decided to download custom skins and models
