You know what? It seems that every time you take up the reins of different gaming heroes, namely and mainly Jack Carver and Gordon Freeman, the weather is always nice and balmy, a few scattered clouds and what not but, imagine the derelict freighter in FarCry when you first attempt to find val....Now imagine it you look over the railing to take out that pesky first chopper and you see a huge tropical MOFO of a storm blowing in, palm trees bending to the wind and sheet rain blowing the chopper this way and that, waves crashing against the side of the freighter, thunder, lightning IMAGINE the SOUND coming out of your WOOFER!!!

As I really tend to get into the game im playing if it has one of those plots and you cant stop playing, how good would that be? The storm sticks with you over the next few levels as you make your way up the mountain to the comm facility..... NOW picture HL2...Your making your way along the coast , towards the big bridge and imagine the same thing, the sound the trees blowing around the lightning and the thunder....I know it'd be GFX intensive but man, how cool would it be? havent seen a storm in a game since Prague, Soldier of Fortune style! limited grafix i know yeah, but itd add a whole new sense of immersion, especially with games like STALKER (Which, I think, does have rather nasty weather) Boiling point and pariah, these games would be HEAPS good, Whadday think?

There wasn't even rain in HL2. I DEMAND BAD WEATHER !
It would have added a crapload of atmosphere..

bad weather is one of the standards for a horro movie, that creates atmosphere and fear. Games have indeed been slow to pick up on this classic gothic element.
GO THE BAD WEATHER!

PPUs could make for some bad-ass bad weather effects. Serious snow/wind/rain storms have definitely been something Ive always wanted to see in games :)
Killzone had some nice weather effects, well nice for the PS2 anyway...but Ive never seen a storm roll in on a nice day in any games.
I also demand bad weather! :sniper:

I know it would be so popular because its never been done properly before, and i want to turn my logitech 680 up LOUD dammit LOUD!!

thats why im looking forward toward stalker so much because the weather takes full advantage of direct x

Morrowind had rain, thunder storms etc, so I don't know what TES4 will have in terms of weather.

I want volcano erruption! And me standing near the crater and dodging the lava. That'll be fun.

They also introduced snow in Bloodmoon.

thats why i liked de_survivor for 1.6, SNOW. gave a whole new atmosphere to it. teh woot.

Seriously, you walk out into City 17, a tornado blows you all the way up into the citadel :D

You blow it up and jump back into the tornado :D

I ravenholm where it was ment to be scary, it was nighttime, so thats a start. I reckon halflife needs a bit of horror in it makes the game more exciting kinda, but not making it doom, or res evil. The ravenholm bit was pretty good.

in mgs3 there was an area where a boss battle took place, the area was huge,it was basically 1 massive 1v1 sniper battle, you had sunny, bright weather, then after time it'd rain and get darker, then after the rain you had a foggy mist that settled over the area before the sun came back, was cool

A giant rainstorm during water hazard would have been cool.

True, that'd be very impressive with the source engine.

Cold Fear has constant bad weather and even though the graphics aren't that incredible (in comparison to Half-Life 2 etc), the weather effects are amazing. You have these cool raindrops floating down the "camera-view" and the whole ship you are on is pushed around by huge waves.

It'd be cool to see something like that in Half-Life 2. Weren't they going to have a ship level in the game at first?

HL2 actually had console commands for weather options! Like turning the rain effects on and off....I noticed these on tweakguides after the game, and wondered if I'd missed the bad weather sequence or something, but no, it's not there.

Fully agree with original poster.

I dont want to play Cold Fear, I want bad storms and shit in HL2 or at least FarCry! we should start spamming valve and maybe theyll dump it in the expansion :sniper:
