so a long time ago I made a thread about the Monster Headphones so eventually for Xmas I bought them for myself. I might look like a idiot walking around with them but dang they sound so awesome like the Bass is so ****ing good I also I hook them up to my PC at night games like Farcry2 Crysis just sound so ****ing awesome.

yeah I just wanted to throw that out there.:smoking:

What kind of Headphones do you guys have? and which ones do you prefer for games?

I use speakers.

Surround sound is pretty cool for fps games.

I have some shitty 15 euro headphones from the local crap-a-market. I've been thinking about getting the Steelseries 5h headset. I've heard some good stuff about them, but does anyone here have them? Experiences?

Or can you recommend some other decent headset for me? I hate this clip-on-mic that I have right now.

Steelseries are good for games and that's it. If you like listening to music forgot about them.

I use a set of Logitech's 'Premiun Notebook Headset' when the wife's around (cheap from staples). Otherwise I have a 5.1 surround sound system as follows.
Front: Altec Lansing 12" subs/horns in the front from a theater in S.F. that burned down in the '70s (awesome)
Center: KLH CTR200 from Fry's (weak)
Surround: Pioneer towers with two 10", two 4" and one 2" speaker each in the back from my old boss (pretty good)
Sub: Sony SA-WM250 from Fry's (okay)

The headphones don't give nearly the same feeling of position as the speakers, but I also think there are very subtle bits of sound that I don't hear from the speakers that I do catch on the headphones. Note: my sound card only supports EAX 2.0, in case that makes a difference. Someday if I'm able to test the sound quality of speakers, I may purchase something else. These are the only home speakers I have ever owned.

If you're looking for quality look at sennheiser. I've got some HD600s for audio work, and dear god they are fantastic. I wouldn't go that high for gaming though, but definitely look at sennheiser.

I have a Logitech 5.1 speaker system but I haven't tested it yet. I'll set it up tomorrow once I get back to my apartment.

I use Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's, and gaming is glorious with an X-fi XtremeMusic in my main computer, and music still sounds excellent from my laptop (HD Audio and FLAC music).
At the moment I use some crappy earbuds with my mp3 player (Creative Zen 32gb), but want to get some Shure decent ones (I'm thinking these).

Small problem high end gear tends to always be somewhat awesome especially when powered. Lower end Sennheiser isn't so great and can be easily beaten by Beyerdynamic or Audio Technica gear. The budget most people are looking at paying is $100-200 AUD. Whilst yeah I spent $600-700 on my headphones not including the old stereo amp I had lying around.

I use a pair of AKG 701s whilst a mate of mine uses Beyerdynamic DT770s for the extra bass. For gaming I use a cheap headset which I linked to above the Beyerdynamic DT234 Pro.

I use Sennheiser HD580 Pro's ....they are well comfy and they sound astounding....even without an amplifier they are loud as hell and crystal clear. With an amp they would be even better i've read but for gaming they are more than enough i imagine, assuming the price tag :p

I checked a local retailer for Sennheisers and found out that the decent models are mostly headphones, not headsets. The good headphones they have are really expensive. I haven't dished out 100+ euros for headphones in years since these days I pretty much always use speakers when I listen to music. Earlier I had a pair of madly expensive AKGs and I have to admit that they were really great when it comes to sound quality. However, I don't need great sound quality for gaming, but instead a decent headset with a GOOD mic. The only decent-looking Sennheiser headset that they had was the PC-350 but it was ridiculously expensive. The rest of the Sennheiser headsets were just those small, cheap-looking, uncomfortable plastic POSs.

Unfortunately, Kyorisu, I couldn't find any Beyerdynamic or Audio Technica stuff here, but thanks for the heads up anyway. I think I'll go with your recommendation and pick up the Steelseries 5h. The price was less than half of what the Sennheisers go for and I've had some other gamers recommend the headset for me, too, so I'm hoping it'll be at least half-decent. As long as the mic works well, they are comfortable to wear for long gaming sessions, and the sound quality isn't absolutely terrible (like it is in these 15 euro shitphones I have now) it'll be fine. I'm not expecting aural bliss with that price tag, but as long as those three qualifications (good mic, comfyness, decent sound quality) are met, I'll be happy.

EDIT: Oh, haha, I did find one Beyerdynamic headset after all. It was in fact by Qpad, but it was made in collaboration with Beyerdynamic. The price was 250 euros! That's like 320 USD! :D Yeah, no thanks. :D

EDIT2: Oh crap, hit the quote button instead of the edit button. Sorreyy!
