Do you have a CRT or LCD? On my CRT if i change it to a low res desktop at a different refresh rate it is partly off screen. You'd have to adjust the monitor controls to move the picture back.

Is the desktop exactly showing half or is it just a little off?

i don't know what type of monitor it is but is the CRT monitors the fat ones? but mine is a flat one it looks like this one
http://www.systemaxdev.com/productmedia/htmlimages/cten/monitors/125168-side.jpg
it is on 70 hertz and if i make it lower it is hard to read the text on the screen. it is exactly half way of the screen.
it only goes of the end if i put it on full screen in hl2 but also the mouse is not on the arrow. i have to click about 5 inches to the side for it to click where i want it to.
moving the screen position makes no difference the same bit is still cut off.

the mouse is out of sync with the arrow on the CS:S and hl2 menus as well

THANKS

It's probably a display setting within the video driver. That monitor is a LCD. CRTs work a little differently and that's why I was suggesting to see if you can move the screen position around.

Maybe post a screen shot of the display section of your Video drivers?

Does your screen have an auto adjust button? Might be a long shot, but worth a try if you haven't :)

welll...i tryed the auto ajust thing and now i cant even get to the menu.
it says "not support" on my monitor(like cable disconected)when i open halflife 2 or CS:S, deathmatch runs fine in a window but not full screen and guildwars is still stretched though i cant run it in a window. :(
