Gamesmaster (UK) Half life 2 review

i just thought i would report a new Half life 2 review its in the latest edition of the UK gamesmaster magazine which is a multiformat magazine. they gave the game a 96% and the end comment was " well worth the long wait well, almost its one of the best games of the year. Actually, one of the best games of all time"

Yeah, and ffs guys, please stop comparing a PC game to a PS2 game. A PS2 is console for one, and it got a shitty 233mhz processor.

Within capabilities of a ps2, gta : sa rocks ass. You shouldn't be giving gta : sa 70% because "actually, the ps2 sucks in comparisation to a PC so we'll just downgrade it."

I'll place my bets on it that gta : sa next year won't get 90% for the PC.

Gamesmaster is a shit rag, that follows hype and expected sales projections as the first quota for reviewing a game. The quality of the reviews varies enormously and they're never as good as Edge or PCG at the best of times.

The target audience is 13 year olds who hate PC gaming and are obviously playing to that audience with a 98% for GTA:SA. I'm actually suprised HL2 got a 96%.

Even the reviews say that the HL formula is taken to the next stage and the A.I. and graphics are at par with other next gen games. It's more or less an improvement on HL for all we would know, than an all out original concept.

Where is the proof that this review is real? That quote about Half-Life2 not being the best game of the year sounds like bad english.

HL2's changes over HL1 are changes that alter gameplay. SA's new features over VC are changes that extend gameplay. They don't change the way the game is played or only in a minor way (like the RPG additions). The improvements like swimming or bike riding don't change gameplay much from the original, while the improvements of physics and facial animation do change the gameplay of HL2 vs HL1.
Not to say which is better, but there's a distinct difference between the improvements in both games.

No i doubt it, they can say whatever they want in the background but they don't get a say what gets printed in their magazine, also, its probably one of the reasons why Half-Life2 isn't crawling all over the internet on warez sites. It only takes one idiot and every workplace has an idiot.

Considering one is a driving game in a sense (on PS2) and one is a FPS (on PC) i don't see how hl2 will kick gta's ass, unless of course you mean in game sales or something. If so i laugh at you. They think SA will outsell the biggest ever blockbuster and smash it off the record book by over 100million more. (if you don't know what film that is, its Titanic)

GTA:SA and MGS3 are contenders. We haven't played any of them yet except for GTA so no one can really make an informed decision right now.

I think the point is it's fun to play. HL2 is hardly original either - I'd argue there's a hell of lot more new ideas in San Andreas than in HL2.
