Being a freshman in college, I thought it would be a good idea to get a laptop. I thought I had gotten completely over playing computer games, and Apple laptops looked pretty nice, so I got a Macbook Pro. It's really a great computer for schoolwork and things like that, but a gaming machine it is not. The thing is, I kind of want to play some games, but there really aren't a whole lot to play.

I remember playing Medal of Honor Allied Assault and Spearhead multiplayer like crazy when they were new, and that was so fun. I checked it out for Mac and it turns out it's available. I don't have much money to spend on games, though, so I torrented it. I went to install it and it said that the disk image might be corrupt which might harm my system, so I just deleted the entire thing and said oh well. Some people said it was a crappy port from Windows anyway. I guess it was kind of glitched.

Anyway, the point of this whole topic is to ask if anyone who is stuck in a similar situation has any recommendations for decent Mac games. Probably everybody here is on a PC, but I figured I'd ask.

I still have my Windows desktop, but it's all put away in my attic, infected with viruses, and kind of outdated.

Thanks, dudes.

Edit: I thought I'd mention I'm not interested in Warcraft at all. Not in the least.

Dust off your Windows PC, reformat it, and install games on that.

Just walk into an Apple store--they have LOADS of games with plenty more in development as we speak. Good times. Get Tron 2.0 NOW.

they have apple stores?

get rid of them, before they spread.

Thanks for the help, guys.

I don't really want to do the Boot Camp thing because I'm terrified of screwing up this laptop. Plus, it's a performance hog I would imagine.

How do I reformat my PC? I've always wanted to give it a try, but I didn't want to get in over my head. I guess it's worth a shot, huh? I'd have to back up a shitload of programs and files, though. Gotta find my copy of Windows and such. I wouldn't have to pay for all my Valve games again, right?

I'll probably cruise by the Apple store and check some games out sometime soon.

Thanks again.

If you registered your Valve games through Steam them they are tied to your user account and you'll be able to redownload them again (no charge). Same applies to any 3rd Party games you brought through Steam.

Here's a good article about reinstalling:-

Ideally persuade a PC savvy friend to assist you as well.

Boot Camp isn't an emulator, it's just a way of installing Windows next to OS X. So it won't affect your performance at all.

And it won't screw up your laptop, and if it does, I don't see why you would be terrified of it because I assume you back up all your important documents. And if you don't, you got good reason to be terrified of spontaneous failure, regardless of Boot Camp.

What's with this FUD?

Boot Camp doesn't run in OS X or anything; it installs a native Windows XP partition on your hard drive. There's no performance penalty, and Apple provides all of its drivers so it's easy to get running once XP is installed. Don't really bother with gaming on OS X, though; it's just so much better to use Boot Camp. Just buy OS X games as a last resort kind of thing.

dont listen to them, as usual they dont know what they're talking about ...bootcamp is NOT an emulator ..you dual boot into windows ..with the intel chip it runs it natively just like it does mac os

I'm pretty sure the last 2 people said it wasn't an emulator.

it's not an emulator ...also ea has made it easier to port games to osx

There's other VMware programs similar to Bootcamp then, called Virtual PC and Parallels.
Maybe I was thinking about those then? One of them I know are emulators and not PC dual-booting software like bootcamp.
@ Moto_Pat: Just don't use any Windows emulator for gaming is what I probably should have said. Sorry for causing any confusion.

@ the rest of you mac guys: Nevertheless and regardless whether I'm right or wrong however, there's a reason why software like these were created for Macs, and that's because they SUCK! :cheese:

Mac guy: Hey PC guy! I have no viruses AND I'm sexy too! What do you have?

PC guy: I own 98% of the computer industy, I don't give a damn about debating with you.

Someone sigged this^ here in the past and whoever it was should do it again. Great stuff. :D

Halo Combat Evolved FTW?

Stern are you drunk...?

He's spamming, the whore :p

And as everyone but the uninformed have said. Bootcamp is not an emulator but a dual boot system, so there should be no performance downgrade.
