Let me get this straight… Garry’s Mod, the durable Half-Life 2 modification that allows players to sculpt faces, spawn objects, create huge machines, forge wars, manipulate objects, play with rag dolls and fiddle with pretty much anything you can imagine, has released a new version… in which you can create games. [br] [br] Well, “making games” doesn’t seem to be as easy as it sounds (which is a surprise, seeing as Gmod has a reputation for being pathetically easy to use) . In fact, I looked through the Gmod Wiki and a few forum posts, and was lost in a river of complex talk about Lua scripting and meddling with text files. Well, complicated or not, there’s a whole bunch of talented people out there who’re already working away at a wide range of game modes that we can feast upon. Hell, there’s already a whole load of unique game modes bundled with version 9! [br]

[br]This is a big step forward for Garry’s Mod. Think of all the glorious creations that will arise from the Half-Life 2 community! Think of all the kind of crazy games we’ll be able to play! If you feel like learning more about these new game modes, or you just want to know more about Gmod in general, head on down to the Garry’s Mod Website. YES. Finally. I've been looking forward to this LUA scripting.

Should have included a screenshot of that barrels game.

Yea its cool..ive been messing around with the lua and I must say it is a big addition to gmod...here's a screen I took of melon racing (resized for forum)

Awww crap, I forgot to include my theory- that Garry is actually the Gman- in my newspost, and now I can't think of a plausable way to fit it in. Oh well.

And I just played a game mode where you have to stack up boxes to reach the top of a wall, which was suprisingly fun, especially when random peeps started joining my server and helping me out :D

Meh, might get it if a bunch of other people I know get it (I don't trust the general online public). Never really got into Gmod.

YAY! Melon racing looks sweet! (reminds me of being a goron in Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask).

Oh, and the rest looks pretty nice too.

lua? is this a type of coding? is it easy to use/understand?

The gamemodes are a great idea. Personally I like the bridge/tower games and the melon racing. Just need more maps for the racing though.... one with huge ramps :p

This was a pain in the ass to do by myself (even though about half the time was spent trying to find an easy way to do it):

EDIT: Hey, I passed 4000 posts...

Looks too complicated for me. I'm a retard..so I'd fail. Looks fun though.

I can't play online, I go find servers but there aren't any.

What am I doing wrong?

The new version made pretty much no difference for me seen as I can't be bothered learning LUA scripting ATM (because I'm learning C++) and my modem is too slow for multiplayer, so it was just a pointless two hour download.

LUA should be pretty simple if you know C++

O M G

THIS MOD IS AMAZING

I will here start a vote ....

VOTE GARRY 4 PRESIDENT

keep this nice shit going

Hopefully, the introduction in LUA scripting will encourage people to make the leap to actual C++ coding for HL2. Then finally 90% of mods will actually get something done :p

gary is a genius!

this is the only mod worth downloading right now.

As far as I can tell, he didn't fix the colormod option... or if he did, then I'm missing something. Cause I can't tell what the hell it does.

Just been playing through some of the mini-games, wow some of them really suck you in and steal hours from your day. I tried the melonracing, football and various building games, with the building bridges map being my favourite, got addictive! Really good fun with all the teams competeing, great stuff.

For me, garry's mod got stale some time ago, they added more features but the same concept was there, and it 'had all been done'. The multiplayer building was fun for a short while too. But this is totally fresh, and pretty damn fun to play with some mates. A job well done on refreshing this mod for the entire community, not just the garry mod enthusiasts.

Oh **** yeah. Just playing with Sui, Simmo and Crush and we had great fun racing melons around the place, building bridges and playing football. Except Crush and Simmo cheated on the bridges and noclipped to the end. :hmph: We would have won otherwise, we fell down to the bottom of a canyon and survived, I was building a ladder...the big pit thing with the instagib laser guns is fun too. :D

hehehe ;)

The melons are definately the best imo (out of what i played), so fun :D

Football wasn't bad either

I did another attempt to complete a team construction game on my own... this time around I did the climbing one and I completed the whole thing in about 13 minutes longer than it took me to cross one bridge gap:

We should have speedclimbing records or something...

I need more servers! There are only a few ones below 120 ping.

I did that with one other person... got to the first level in 9 minutes, second in 19, third in 34. Main problem being that I was always at the bottom of the levels, passing up the boxes... and the damn towers were impossible to climb. Still, fun, and owned you :p

If you mean that you were on the same team, we're not even in the same category. I went solo. You went as a team. Frankly, considering all of the trouble I had to go through, solo, on the first section I'm amazed that you still only did it in ~70% of my time. I had to throw stuff up, freeze it in mid-air, climb up, unfreeze it, catch it before it falls too far, position it, drop it, freeze it before it falls too far, and repeat... not so fun. Also, how the hell did you go the slowest (by far) in the easiest leg of the race? You guys must have been retarded. You no longer have to pass boxes from the floor up to the top on the third section... since you can spawn blocks on top of blocks. The last part is child's play. Look at my timing on that section. It's strange that I managed to do that one in eight minutes while your best time on any section was nine... and your time on the same section was fifteen. Owned? I think not. :p

EDIT: That's not even taking into consideration that it was my first time ever playing that level. If I went solo again I could probably knock off about 20 minutes or more. I only started to really get the hang of it near the end of the second section...

Yeh, the 2nd part in the Bridge game is definately the hardest. Especially if you got a noob teammate.

Well, I did what I said... and more:

I was running behind schedule a bit in the mid-section... but I really picked up the pace at the end to make up for it, finishing the third stage in just over three minutes.

... your turn. :E

So... how did you manage to get the boxes up to you near the top of the levels? I know that the gravity gun doesn't work to pull them up when that high...

And... the main thing that held me back was that the other person in my team made almost impossible-to-climb towers, and that a sudden lag spike caused me to die while almost at the top of the third tower :p (and various lag spikes caused me to go down to 10hp before that). I'll try again later.

On the first two walls, after you get about half-way up... you'll need to spawn a bunch, throw them up in the air, switch to the next weapon, and freeze them (the higher the better) one at a time. Then, once you're back on the top of your tower where you can use them you unfreeze one, quickly switch to the manipulator, and grab it before it falls too far to catch.

The third section is, by far, the simplest. Spawn a starting block on the ground and freeze it. From there... spawn one on the center of the top of that block, pick it up, hop on the locked box, freeze the one you're holding, and repeat.

Why you people don't build your bridges/towers next to walls baffles me. It adds something to lean on instead of falling off, and makes the crates easier to line up with. pfft noobs.
