Gears of war Cole and Baird rip offs of Final Fantasy VII Characters?

The Cole comparision isn't very alike, aside from skin colour, but the Baird one is pretty close, but that's only because of the hair colour and the goggles.

Preferred the characters from GoW to those two, though.
 
In terms of personalities, there are no similarities at all. Having a big black guy and a blonde with goggles in a game doesn't necessarily mean you're ripping off Final Fantasy 7. In fact, I'm sure the design team at Epic studios would be pretty offended if, after making absolutely tons of unique, vibrant environments and character designs, you accused them of saying "hey, let's just be lazy and steal two guys from FF7."

Since when are GoW characters unique? If you're seen any generic action movie you've seen the GoW guys.
 
LMAO they are just a rip off of every token black guy and 'cool dude' white guy Charlie Sheen war hero character ever... picking a specific piece of media like FF7 is ridiculous.

Offended about what? The character development in Gears of War rivals maybe a C action movie at best. The environments are gorgeous, but the characters are merely suitable.. :| nothing to write home about, tried and true ragtag action heroes that modern moviegoers have seen since going to the movies became popular.
 
The FF guys are smiling, how tough could they be?
 
I'm assuming the barret and cid pics are from that FF7 movie? Man they made Cid look much less badass than he is.
 
Wow gears has damn good graphics, if it looks atleast 10-20 times better then a movie.. Assuming those FF pics are from the movie (never seen it..)
 
Those pics are from Advent Children and based of an anime style so don't judge the graphical depth too harshly.

The resemblance between Baird and Cid is certainly uncanny, but in a fight, Cid would win.
 
What's he going to do, dodge an explosion? Look at the size of Baird, he'd - literally - rip that guy in half!

First of all, he has a huge airship, a very sharp pike/spear, and has pummeled and eaten larger beasts than Baird for a snack.

Cid's level 4 limit break uses his airship to drop a total of 18 HE bombs on his target so it is Baird who will be doing the dodging. :D

Interesting.

Doesn't seem like a bad idea to make your characters look like the characters of one of the most popular game series ever, and from the most popular chapter in the series none the less; FF7

They all look pretty tough. I'd hate to be on the opposing side.
 
I think the real question we should be asking is - who the **** gives a shit about Baird?

As the development cycles of Gears of War and Advent Children were pretty concurrent, you'd have to make the comparison with screenshots of the pre-franchise raped Final Fantasy VII. Or Nomura's character art, which looks significantly different to either the blob men of FF7 or the completely redesigned folks in Advent Children.

Barrett was of course lifted wholesale from the A-Team anyway.

Oh. That's true. Which one was really first? I was thinking we were comparing a 12 year old game to a recent game, but the FF images shown are new.
