not that it's exactly concrete confirmation it'll be released on PC (which is pretty much assured since it's such a high profile game) but it does give me some hope it'll make it's way to pc .even though besides visuals there's not a heck of a lot to differentiate GoW with any other fps (at least from what I've seen).
 
It's always been almost totally confirmed that GoW will come out for PC, however, the dev has stated that there will be absolutely no work on the port untill the 360 game is out in the shops.:) And one year seems like a decent time to do a port to PC imo.:D
 
I ready to be suprised by Gears. If Cliffy says it's deeper than we think, I really want to believe him.
 
Epic don't have the kind of consistant track record that i'd use to bank on Gears of War being worth the hype. They certainly don't have a good single player track record. In fact, they barely have a record at all.
 
As someone on Evil Avatar said earlier, chalk this one up in the 'No Duh' category.

Seriously though, there had better be a lot more to this game than the pretty graphics. I couldn't care less about pop-n-shoot gameplay!!
 
But let's be honest, I'm going to buy it just because of the pretty graphics.
 
That's nice. Lets just hope the PC port isn't as bad as Halo for the PC was.

Keep in mind it's a third person shooter (like max payne, tomb raider and splinter cell). But I agree the visuals might be similar to other shooters, especially UT2007.
 
GoW is bound to appear on the pc at some point - hopefully the port will be a good one. I'll probably end up picking it up just for the shiney graphics too :O
 
If the gameplay sucks, as I feel it will, they needn't bother with a port. If I want pretty graphics I can play Crysis.
 
You guys do realise there is more than just hype to go on now ? Like, first hand experiences from random people..

Go read all the impressions from people who have got to play it, all of them are saying it is freaking awesome.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of good feedback. They say it is pretty intense.

Can't wait for GoW, though I doubt I would get it for the PC though... Glad to hear people aren't starting to bitch "omgz Vista and no XP???" because people seem to finally realize Vista is another platform just like the Xbox now. :) Sweet.
 
Can someone explain to me what's so special about Gears of War? I mean it's a third person shooter with UE3 graphics ... graphics that are great but once again won't be too special after UE3 gets used in more games.

Every video I see is some generic meathead running around, peaking around corners and shooting brainless monsters. This synopsis could literally be applied to dozens of games, and chances are a couple of them play better. I just don't get it ... it's another generic third person shooter, big deal.

I trust Cliffy B on this. His worked with Epic Games on all the Unreal Games, and not one of them has sucked (Unreal 2 wasn't made by Epic, that was by Legends or something). So i have no reason to think this will.
 
Can someone explain to me what's so special about HL2? I mean it's a first person shooter with Source graphics ... graphics that are great but once again won't be too special after Soruce gets used in more games.

Every video I see is some generic meathead running around, bunnyhopping around corners and shooting brainless combine. This synopsis could literally be applied to dozens of games, and chances are a couple of them play better. I just don't get it ... it's another generic first person shooter, big deal.

I disagree ..it is definately NOT generic ..if anything one can truely see their level of skill in terms of creating a believeable world that's leaps and bounds above 99.9% of fps out there ..I mean come on man how can you play through that game and then compare it to every other fps ever released? it's apples and oranges

That post was stupid. It doesn't really deserve a response, but I'm bored so...

HL2 is special because it's good. It innovated in graphics, immersion, and character interaction. However, the main thing that defines HL2 is the ridiculous level of polish that Valve put into it, the game plays about as perfectly as it possibly could. It's almost a work of art. Also ... there are no meatheads in HL2, I don't remember any bunnyhopping, and the combine are far from brainless.

I'm not saying Gears of War will suck, I'm just saying that I don't see any definining quality about it besides graphics. It isn't a special game, it's a generic game. If you can show me something that will change my mind about it then great.
 
I hope it gets released on PC, otherwise the poor germans won't get this game since it got banned from germany for the 360...

Have you read the opinion of anyone who has played it at the Made in Hell thing, X06 or any other events ?

They all say that the graphics is really a small part of why it's awesome and the people go on about how the multiplayer is so fun, tense, etc and most notably just plays/feels a lot different to most FPS.

Go read what people have said and I easily could've replaced HL2 with GoW in your post and it could apply as people have said how immersive it is, the characters are quite novel, Epic has put an amazing amount of polish on, etc.

He must be the badass who spouts out one liners and plays by his own rules, taking shit from no man. Very original character design and I'm sure they have an amazing arc laid out for him over what I'm sure is an illustrious and beautifully written story.

And yes, I've read positive impressions and mediocre impressions. The one thing I can say about it is that no one hates it, and the very least people usually have to say is that "it's solid." That's exactly what it looks like to me, a solid, decent game. There are lots of these, I just don't see the big deal.

And yes, you can replace the titles of games with other games and think it's clever, but it's only clever if it makes sense. For instance, you could have replaced GoW for say ... Call of Duty 3 maybe, or some other bland game ... but you kinda dug yourself a hole when you decided to compare a fairly average game to one of the best games ever made.
 
No, I couldn't/wouldn't replace it for CoD3 as CoD3 doesn't look half as good as GoW or HL2 and doesn't seem to have the same immersion, etc.

People seem to think the story will be quite good as it is written by Susan O'Connor and Eric Nylund with input from Cliffy.

I didn't dig a hole for myself and how is GoW average ? Have you played it ? I'm reserving my judgement till I play though for now I will relay comments based on people's opinions who actually have played it, not some guy on a forum who thinks HL2 is the greatest thing since sliced bread. :O

This is going the exact same way as the last several GoW threads so like I said, good freaking job for thinking it's mediocre and since you don't see what's so special about it stop polluting the GoW thread(s) and leave it for those who are interested in it. :x

Jesus Christ you're annoying. For starters I would like you to read that post you just made and realize how many times you repeated yourself in one post alone. Say it with me now, "hypocrite."

Secondly, I made one post expressing my opinion on a public forum, and I don't care **** all whether you think I should have. The rest of my posts in this topic were in direct response to ones you made to me.

My original point is that while this may be a good game, I haven't seen anything to suggest it will be close to great. It seems very overhyped, and I specifically asked you to show me something that would change my mind ... but instead you respond with a bunch of bullshit and petty insults. I don't even give a shit, I don't care enough about this game to argue about it anymore.

It seems people have a huge misconception of what it is a game is supposed to do. We have people in this thread saying things like the charactar isn't very original, the graphics are good but wont be so good when other games with similar graphics roll out, it's not some special leap forward in the evolution of gaming. All of these things may be true, but so what?

Gamers are becoming more and more religious in the way that they anticipate the coming of some world altering paradigm in games, like the way every generation looks for the second coming of Christ. Guys, it will happen. Once again some brilliant company will roll out something that everyone will look at and say this is how it will be done from now on. iD software did it a few times, Valve did it, it will happen again. But that doesn't mean something which you call "generic" is to be tossed aside based on this alone. If the game isn't fun, then by all means toss it aside! However, a game can be completely generic, even to the point of being laughably generic at times, and still be an extremely great game!

So what if the character is cookie cutter, he still has alot of personality, and it's one that works very well inside this game. So what if it doesn't make huge leaps and bounds in the way games are made, the gameplay is still interesting in how they did the cover system and looks like it would be fun to experience. And so what if a person wants to play it simply because it has better graphics than anything else on the market, half the experience is simply being immersed inside the world and graphics help do that. People seem to look down on this, but buying and playing a game simply for the great graphics and for no other reason is a very valid position!

A game isn't supposed to ignite a new era of evolution in gaming, it's supposed to be fun and immersive. This is the point of gaming. If you don't think the game is fun, thats a valid opinion, but too often people dismiss a game on every convievable reason but this one. And that doesn't sound like a gamer at all. With games like GoW coming out, a person like me who really enjoys the hobby has much to look forward to. I wish you all could do the same, and not argue so much with your brothers. We are meant to come together and enjoy our hobby together, don't forget that!!

Well said man, very good points. Yeah, there's nothing wrong with "mindless" games that are incredibly well designed and great fun (Timesplitters comes to mind, one of my favorites). GoW may very well be one of these games, I hope that it is. It's just that usually when a game has this much hype surrounding it, you can easily look at it and see what makes it so special. I'm just having a hard time figuring it out. The impression I get is that the game is more or less a vehicle to show off the amazing graphics. But your comment about graphics is also a good one. For instance ... Far Cry for me was so enjoyable because of the graphics. I can imagine not playing/enjoying that game nearly as much if the graphics didn't convey the atmosphere the way they do.

As for destrukt ... I'm done with you man. You're obviously a fairly pathetic individual to get so worked up over something so trivial.
