Gears of War - PC Version Goes Gold

I forget, is this one of the stupid Vista only games or will it work on XP too just fine?

I hope they release a demo soon.

I really want to try out this game first.

I believe Cliffy B said in an interview that it will be XP compatible as well.

Hmm, definately a demo first for me!

It was a great game to play coop. Mp was fun for a month and sp alone is stupid. It also has no story, its all gameplay.

I dont think im getting this for pc when i already have it for 360.

All of it works with XP though. They wanted to get GFW Live out fast, so they focused on one platform (Vista), but now they are finally expanding it to XP as well.

Not sure on co-op or SM3 though.

Already got bored of it on 360 before finishing it.

It's like a 6 hour campaign. :p

Personally, the added chapters are cool, but I want the Unreal Editor!

I'm dying to play this after the videos I've seen and peer reviews.

...glad it's coming to XP.

When the game first came out, I loved the trailer for the game when it was aired on TV. The first time I saw it I got all hot & bothered... that is until I saw it was the console version... Funny, I remember reading somewhere a statement that the game would never make it to the PC...

Even if it's Vista only when it's released, i'm not worried, as I have no doubt what-so-ever that it'll be cracked by the "underground" community to run on XP. Halo 2 was, among other games...

After reading a statement from Microsoft a month or so back, that it had already begun working on it's next OS, to be released in 3 years, it's only a matter of time, that until a stable OS is released, that XP will be the platform to cater to, even if it is getting a little long in the tooth.

I don't want to use Windows Live. I think I'll wait for some clever people to mod it so you can connect to non-Live servers.

...Windows Live is practically their anti-piracy thing.
If you don't use it, you're not playing online.

I'm really not bothered by Windows Live, although in Halo 2... it looks like it was ripped straight out of the xbox.
With the button icons and everything.

I didn't like the 3rd person view and it was all spray gunning.

Will this work on an Ati x740xl or will it be like Bioshock and require Sm3 cause i really want to play this.

Visually, Gears of War arguably looks even more stunning on the PC than it did on the Xbox 360. That's partly due to the nature of the platform. On the PC, the display is often just a foot or two away from your head, so you can soak up all the minute detail onscreen much easier than you can on a television that's across your living room. However, if you have a beefy system you'll be able to appreciate even higher resolution and higher-resolution textures than the 360 game. Of course, your mileage may vary depending on your system specs. We're told that the minimum system requirements are a 2GHz AMD or a 2.4GHz Intel single-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and an Nvidia 6600 or ATI X700 video card.

Looks like it will.

Those are insanely low requirements.

I think I just shat bricks.

that is, also i hate windows live so much. we shouldn't have to pay just to play a damn game online.....

For Windows Live, Silver allows you to play on servers, but you don't get access to Rankings / Matchmaking, or multiplayer achievements. You can still go on Silver-level servers. In fact, it's a server operators choice if they want Gold or Silver level players on.

That's how it worked with Shadowrun at least and I'm sure that's how it will work in this too.

Basically, Silver level is what you are used to today. You go on, and join any random server. Gold-level means you get matchmaking so you are guaranteed to join people with the same skill level.

o thank god you told me that. i always was confused over that. i kept hearing that a silver account was free and only allowed you to play online but you couldnt run your own server. i was thinking it applied for xbox live as well but it isnt.

Yea for XBL it's a different system.

Essentially though, what MS needs to advertise for GFW is that silver, aka free, offers gamers the current and same online experience that we all experience now, ala TF2. Go online, join random server :)

Gold is nice because like I said it matches you via TruSkill and what not, and you get to have access to leaderboards and other ranking systems. TBH, Gold just for GFW is useless. You need both X360 and GFW games to fully utilize how much you pay per month, which isn't much to begin with.

9.0 Gamespot review.

Question:

Do you need to have Xbox-Live Gold membership to play online ?

edit: the answer is three posts above me.... ta :).... LOL 4x ?30 = 120 pounds to spend on games this month. :D

What the hell is this about steep system requirements?

I'm pretty sure it should run even better than the UT3 beta demo which runs without a single hitch for me.

I have heard that Vista is required for Live, silver or gold. Is this true?

No.

You have to pay for Gold, Silver is free... you get all of the regular benefits that you normally get with multiplayer games with silver.

Gold is for achievements and some other shit.

Man, It's going to be a tough decision between Gears and CoD4...

Not to sound like Blackbeard, Captain Hook, Malcolm Reynolds, or Jack Sparrow or anything, but both are now available through...

As xlucidx said, nope.

GFW Live is available for both Vista and XP.

It was always in the cards for it to work on XP. However, they needed to get Shadowrun and Halo2 out the door, and they needed to just settle down and make sure it works months in advance. Thus, they chose the path of least resistance which was to temporarily restrict it to Vista so they only had to test it on that one OS. Now they've had more time to develop it, and you can get it for XP as well. In fact, Shadowrun _might_ work on XP systems now that they released the 1.2 update to GFW.

Nah, screw that. :p

They both have really good multiplayer it seems so I'll be buying both, at different points in time at least.

CoD4's on my definite buy list though.
