heck yes.

Anyway, over on the GoW forum (my account has been activated in ~8 hours, what the heck..) we've been waiting for a 'BIG announcement' but we're yet to receive one, though someone noticed this on xbox.com, so we assume that that is all the announcement will be.

Weird thing is, it's a sunday which is uncommon for games, so some people are calling shenanigans.. oh well, let's hope for a BIG announcement from Epic on their forums.

Erm, I don't believe it yet, though I do think it will be right around then to take some wind out of the already deflated sails of the PS3. Sure, its not the next Halo, but who cares? It actually looks worlds better than anything Halo 3 will likely have to offer imho.

Aye, a Sunday doesn't sound all too credible, but if it's around that weekend then fine, my birthday's on the 11th. :D

GoW could do for the 360 what Halo did for the original Xbox; well, somewhat.

From the 'codes' over on the GoW forums, some people worked out 'November 12' as a date, so it's somewhat credible.. and this is the Xbox site, but it could've been a mistake by an underling.

Sunday? Sounds more like a retailer date than an official one.

Okay, it sounds like it's true.

Mark is in IRC if you want to hear the news from him.

Some stores will have GoW on Nov 7th, and then can sell it as soon as they get it.
Pre-order here I come.

Edit: 17th for Europe.

I recently got a bunch of RPG's for my PS2 that will keep me company until well beyond the Wii release. My 360 fever has been broken. I will now go back to my previous state.

360 SUCKS!

Seriously though, the only gameplay I've seen of Gears of War is like Killswitch with more spraying bullets + some melee. Can anybody point me to the video clip or article that makes them want to buy the game the most?

Okay, been talking to good ole' Mark Rein for a bit.

MarkRein[Epic] skip--> Australia / New Zealand is November 24th
MarkRein[Epic] Skip--> Japan is December sometime

Gears of War will explode onto store shelves with a standard edition available for $59.99 (suggested retail price) and a limited collector's edition available for $69.99. The limited edition offers an even deeper look into the graphically stunning and frightening world of Gears of War, providing an official "Destroyed Beauty" art book and a bonus DVD featuring an inside look at the making of the game—all enclosed in a highly collectible metal box.

amish: start here - http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?fs=1&id=1650

Why it's a sunday release:
Apparently it's the busiest day for consumer electronics
- MS didn't want to hold back any stores from selling it
- Give big stores time to stock

Some other info:
- Epic wasn't behind the 'Code' thing
- They also weren't behind the XBLive messages and so on
- CliffyB has accidentally leaked some info, about vehicles and whatnot
- Some people saw some things they weren't suppose to, so now there are rumours of tanks/helicopters
- In co-op the 2nd player plays as Dom
- About the frame rate: "It should be 30, or better, all the time"
- The meaning of life is 42, according to Mark Rein
- Gold announcement is a fair bit away
- There will be 'one or two' parts that will make you jump out of your seat
- No self destruct on the Lancer
- Almost definently no demo
- 'Single player is the majority of the work'
- Big event on the release date, aka 'Emergence Day'
- Camera when moving up/down stairs will be fixed

He avoided heaps of questions (Usually by saying "I don't know" though he may have been telling the truth), like about bots, mp maps, lip-syncing and so on.

And he's off.

Awesome info, thanks :) I've got it posted at ue3.org :)

I'm excited for this, I don't own a 360 but I'll play this game at work to be sure.

****ing preordering! Buying myself the collectors edition!

No credit ?! Just kidding. :)

By the way, your site is broken in Opera 9. D:

Exactly what I'm doing as soon as I wake up in a few hours.

I'd like to get my hands on that collector's edition, but I aint paying 70 dollars D:

Swedes have to pay $84 as a regular price for all new 360 games :(

Wait a minute this is only for 360? That's really dumb oh well. 80 dollar games for the lose. That's more than my average paycheck!!

Well, apparently this costs more than the average 360 game, and the average 360 game is $120AU so this will be 130 or 140, or they'll want my first born, I don't think any of you have it worse than me. D:

Fantastic news. I post on the Gears of War forums regularly under the name electric flesh. I preordered the collectors edition today along with Saint's Row and Dead Rising.

Why does everyone love GoW so damn much? It looks like a generic 3rd person shooter....

The first thing that grabbed my attention was the visuals, of course. The art direction is fantastic and it really captures the gritty feel of a war-torn city/landscape.

Secondly, it takes the best aspects of other games and combines them into a nice kick-ass package. Great cover gameplay, post apocalyptic theme, badass main character, interesting weapons (Lancer - chainsaw rifle, Hammer of Dawn - satellite controlled laser weapon, Bolo Grenades, etc.), the ability to curb-stomp your enemies in multiplayer, and the impressive graphics. :)

Edit - And Cliff Bleszinski calls it "second person".

Because its NOT a 3rd person shooter and its going to be a blast to play co-op and single player.

What? So your point of view in the game is from someone else on the battlefield that you're not controlling? Maybe they have some excuse like your POV is actually from someone else mind controlling the character or something, but for all intents and purposes it is a third person shooter.

Despite the graphics... this game looks un-interesting...

I really don't see the big deal either, but I'll still give it a look when it's out. My opinions thus far are based on the videos I've seen, which made the gameplay look bland and... what I can only describe as anti-tactical. But I guess I could still be sold to the concept by some solid coop gameplay.

It's a 2nd person duck and shoot game. If you want to try out this genre, go play Kill.Switch. It's done alright in Kill.Switch, but GoW is probably going to get it just right. Throw in a chainsaw extention on your gun that unleashes a crazy melee attack, balls to the wall action and some crazy visuals that are STILL TO THIS DAY BEING IMPROVED.

"[The E3 demo] was using our single-threaded renderer. We have our new Gemini multi-threaded rendered working in the engine right now," Rein explained. "The final game's built on it, it gives us better frame rates and more fluidity - UT 2007 will also benefit from it. It only gets better from here. So if you were impressed with Gears of War at E3, the finished game's going to be much better, it's going to be spectacular."

What? So your point of view in the game is from someone else on the battlefield that you're not controlling?

Yeah, it's called the camera. Most platformers and adventure games need it to navigate. Cliff says that it's a blend between 1st and 3rd person. But don't take my word for it, go watch one of the interviews with him on G4 where he mentions the camera view.

The camera changes into a Splinter Cell/RE4 style when you pull your weapon out, but it's more far back when you're not in combat mode.

maybe it just isn't for you ? why try and take away from others ?

- cinematic camera
- 'different' melee
- good use of cover, better than graw
- awesome graphics
- fairly good story lne
- awesome graphics
- good 'art style'
- 'mini games' though some people don't like them, like the reloading one
- co-op

.. etc

it's not generic, by far . . .

The camera is the third person. The player character is the first person. Enemies and allies are the second person. It's not a second person perspective shooter, that would make no sense. All the videos of GoW I've seen are completely third person.

Its not meant to be taken literal. In a 3rd person shooter the camera is pretty far in a 1st person you see the gun. In GoW you are near the shoulder. So its 2nd person in a sense.

@ destrukt, never use "good use of cover" in a game.. almost every shooter made within the past 4 years uses cover.. I agree the artstyle/graphics are good. Make up your mind with the camera.. 2nd person or cinematic? (yes they are different..). Co-op is in most games on the market.. big deal.. I don't know the storyline, do you? If you do, please tell me, maybe it's so good I'll change my mind.. The melee is probably going to be like RE4, it's cool at first (knockout a guy out with kick, booting his head off, ect. in RE4 VS. chainsaw guy in half, snap his neck, ect. in GoW), but the novelty of it wore off fast in RE4..

I'm not saying "don't like this game, it sucks!", but I am saying that it doesn't have enough different things from other games...

no, saying good use of cover is a perfectly valid point, have you seen any of the videos ? the way 'cover i used' is different/better than other games, it's not simply hiding behind a static object and/or wall, but the way they go about it with sticking out guns and what not.

why should i have to make up my mind, where did i even say 2nd person ? in fact, the only camera related thing i said was 'cinematic camera' - like instead of being static, it kind of 'jumps around' like in war movies and what not.

co-op is in most games ? HAHAHAH, show me just how co-op is in >= 50% of most games, thanks buddy.

go do some research yourself.

"probbly going to be" - wow, you are more clueless than i thought and since you actually said something like that, i guess your forefathers where the ones who were convinced that the world was flat.

watch the freaking gow movies and try reading my posts, thanks. /rolls eyes

Wait, what about the story? and 50% of games is still a big freakin chunk.. Cinematic camera is in almost all games where you can change camera.. and about the "cover", thats why they make you able to lean in most games..

"Thanks, Buddy"

You guys have all left out the fact that it's a squad based game (you can send out orders to your team) as well.

I'm still not sold on the whole idea yet but coop sounds like a lot of fun to me right now.

And coop is probably in 10% of games out there if that...

Oh cock. Thats like 780 if i buy this and a 360. Bah. I really want a 360, but i need a HDTV first. So thats like ....$2500 if i wanna play this game with the best looks possible.

Most games have coop? Wth?
