geforce 4?

hey i was just wandering is my card classed as a geforce 4 (xfx geforce 5900 xt) and will geforce cards still play HL2 well, since valve has teamed up with ATI.

also could any one advise a motherboard that will be able to take all the of amd's 64bit procesors for a good few years.

no yours isnt a geforce 4.

yes your card will run hl2 perfectly.

edit: your motherboard question

athlon64's are undergoing a socket change. they are currently 754, and will be changing to socket 939. fx-XX series are socket 940.

i would advise you wait for awhile and get a socket 939 motherboard and a socket 939 athlon64.

yep they sure are...

would i get one? not right now. particularly with current athlon64's as cheap as they are, you might as well just spend 50-80 dollars more on an a64 than a 3200+ right now.

surpose i did get an amd 64 how long do you think id would be before id have to upgrade it agian, because upgradeing from that would need a whole new motherboard agian

yeah it would need a new motherboard. its up to you, athlon 64's will allegedly get 1/3 performance increase when operating with their 64 bit extensions... so its up to you. a64's are pretty damn blazing (i know because i have one). they will definatly last you until socket 939 cpu's come down in price (a LOT) and their motherboards follow suit.

fx-XX series are socket 940.

The FX line is also moving to Socket 939.
