GeForce 6600GT BEST sub-$200 card??

I've been saving up to build new computer for awhile...

Btw P4 3200 and AMD 64 3200, I decided on AMD since many ppl said it's better for gaming...

I was firmly set on getting Radeon 9800pro since it's the best card in that price range..... but I just heard about this 6600gt from gamespot article...

It's in the same price range and test shows it runs HL2 way better!!!!

So btw 6600gt and 9800pro, what should I get???

If ATI put out their counterpart in Sept, how will it fair with 6600gt.... and 9800pro???

Well if i was you i would have a look at the vanilla 6800. I would have thought it would perform better than the 6600 GT but I have not seen any benches etc. Both cards will play HL2 well but no one knows how well...

Yes, but it would be possible to connect it to AGP with a pcie to agp bridge which comes out later this year.

No SLI is not possible with AGP. You need two PCI Express 16x slots for SLI, and the only Mobo that has that at the moment is an intel workstation board that only takes xeon processors and costs about 300 dollars. But I heard NVidia is working on a dual PCIE16x chipset for mainstream sales...

Well since those are your specs, that card would be bottlenecking your system, i'd either cheapen the rest of the system or get a slightly more expensive card.

Also theres no chance in hell you'll get a 6600 into an AGP slot. The much heard about PCIx bridge isnt something you slot your PCIx graphics card into to make it run on AGP but an on GPU die interface so that video card manufacturers dont have to tape out a new chip design at extra cost!

all the pci-e to agp bridge means an undectible part of the core will convert anyhting that pci-e does to AGP, so that card, with an AGP interface, will work.

So it's a AGP card. We should see that soon-ish.
