I was wondering if nVidia's new GeForce 6800 series will have the same problems as the GeForce FX 5--- has with DirectX 9 stuff in HL2 or will handle it just as fine as ATi's RADEON 9--- and X800.
Do any of you know any thing about this? Has it been answered?

Ps.: sorry if I am bringing an old "all-ready-descussed" topic up...

its been said that nvidia has fixed the problem that the 5x00 series had with DX9 which was, its very bad FPS compared to the radeon dx9 cards especially when it came to running PS 2.0

i can guess that the 6800 will be much better than the FX series...IMO i think it will run near of how well the x800 will run...but i dont know ;)

i have heard that the 6800 runs the game well but in the end the ATI cards are still better at the moment.

X800XT willl obviously be best, mostly kase of the Valve-ATI deal on HL2.

nVidia has powered out of the problem. Beyond that it's impossible to speculate, as of course no one actually has the game to test.

*edit: I should say "impossible to speculate accurately." Of course that won't stop anyone.

Any news on this Half-Life 2 Benchmark release?

It would be handy to have that now so we would know what sort of upgrades to look at buying.

People allways compare video cards by "Speed" what about Image quality. If two cards for example can get over 50 frames in HL2 (with full settings) The only real thing you should be thinking of is which card looks better.

Unless of course that person runs Vsync with a refresh rate of 85 Hertz. Then they care about not dipping below 85FPS. ;)

The 6800 is an excellent card and it is not built on the same type of chip the fx cards were, but I still would prefer ATi over Nvidia right now because the X800 has the same performance but it's a much smaller card and doesn't require an extra PCI slot, nor does it require a 480w psu.

I don't think anyone can really tell which card is the best at the mo .......... many benchmarks vary in results to a worrying extent. We'll know when both cards are freely available and the games are out.

One thing that's for sure, both the 6800 and x800 series kick ass ........ you can't really go wrong with either :)

I've had an nVidia graphics card ever since my Voodoo 3, so I'll probably go with nVidia, but as numerous people have said, both are excellent cards. The X800's will probably run HL-2 better because of the VALVe - ATi deal (plus ATi generally have an advantage in DX-9), and the GeForce's will probably perform better in DooM 3 because of the id-nVidia deal and also GeForce's generally perform better in OpenGL

6800 was designed for DX 9.0c. Once 9.0c games come out, the 6800's will be better than the X800's, that were designed for 9.0b.

3.0 is quite a small jump from 2.0 they both look practically the same. There are some performance enhancments but we wont get to see them probably for another year or so. By then ATI will probably have a 3.0 card out aswell.

6800GT looks like the card to get. Seems to be a good clocker and has the full 16 pipes.

Oh yeah doesn't the X800 pro only have 12? But if you look at performance with AA and AF on, the 6800 takes a pretty big hit on most games, leaving the X800 on top.

So ummm is there any news on this HL2 benchmark or what?

Nope, haven't heard anything. By the way, Pobz your "masheen" looks evil.

Is there any way of finding out your power supply specs (preferably without removing the case) if the (shitty) documentation has no information about it?
Edit: All I know is that it's 230v

stick your tongue on it, if you survive, it must be only 250 watt. If you don't, you'll need to upgrade.

you cant open the side panel to your case?

Lol

X800 pro has 12 pipelines.
X800XT has 16 pipes

I belive with a couple of driver revisions the 6800 series will come out on top.

Because it's a very new core and the X800's are just rehashed 9xxx series.

Still aint seen the untapped potentioal.

That would explain why the latest 4.6 Cats, I saw a 5-10% performance increase on my X800 Pro. And thats why the 4.7 Cats betas are rumored to have another 5% performance increase for the X800 Pros. ATI is still tweaking the X800 series. If I remember correctly, you are the people saying that with driver improvements the FX5900 series would be able to overtake the 9800 series from ATI.

Well, The GeForce's already have over taken the Radeon's in a number of benchmarks, even @ 8 x AF and 4 x AA, plus who's to say the GeForce's don't have untapped potential?

The XT may still come out on top, the i'm sorry to say the Pro is the slowest of all the next generation cards in the performence to enthusiast level, so far.

hmmm...the anandtech review uses the ATI 4.6 Beta's, while they use the new 61.45 from Nvidia. Not exactly a fair comparision if you ask me.

But hey, all of these graphics cards are incredibly fast.

Very important point that, at the moment ATI is leading in this department, Nvidia are still cutting corners in certain area. I'd go for an ATI card over a Nvidia card anyday.

err... the 4.7's only provided big boost in 3dmark03, it mainly fixed bugs. the 4.6's provided the big jump over 4.5's

edit:
heres a link

This is just one example, there were also a number of driver and application issues resolved. So when new drivers are released it’s probably not wise to expect hefty performance increases unless otherwise specified. While ATi did claim the 4.6 drivers would bring a number of performance improvements over the 4.5 drivers, the bigger claims were all based on tests within 3Dmark03.

more than 30 fps is overkill.

oh - don't start that again. This has been proved to be complete rubbish so many times I havn't the energy to find a link.

Have a look yourself - it'll take 10 secs :)
