My friend has one of these cards. He says that he loves it. He has no problems playing Far Cry or Doom 3 on High Settings.
But, if I had the choice and the money you have, I would pick up an ATI instead. An ATI Radeon 9800 XT 256 MB RAM.
But the one you are looking at is very good too.

Don't get a 9800xt it's a waste of money. Get a 9800 pro.

A 9800 XT is better than a 9800 Pro!
Do you even know what you are talking about?

A 9800 Pro is much better value for money that the 9800XT.

okay... besides u two rambeling on about ati's... im guessing it isnt all that bad!

Yeah, I know. But the 9800 XT is better. But actually it depends on where you buy the card, if you say it is much better value for your money.

we all dont want to spend that much on a video card

The point is, if you're gonna spend all that money on a 9800xt, you could save up $20-$30 more and you'd have enough for an X800 pro. So it's pointless. On the link for the 5700 it said it's $300 canadian so I'm guessing you're in Canada. 9800 pro is much better, and I found the best 9800 pro for less money on a good Canadian site. It's an MSI 9800 pro, and it's only $292. The MSI one is the best because it has really good cooling and uses the R360 GPU core, meaning it's really an underclocked 9800xt and can be changed to a 9800xt. Here's the link.

A much better card at a lower price, can't beat that. Oh and one more thing I just noticed they don't have it in stock right now but don't worry they'll have it soon, the 9800 pro is in good supply.

Here is the thing about the revised FX architectures (like the FX 5900 and FX 5700), they provide near equal performance in non-shader intensive games (like Unreal Tournament and other games). However, as games start to use more shaders in them, the FX 5700 will start to drop in performance substantially.

The FX series does really good in Doom 3 because it uses very few shaders (in fact it only uses 1 DX9 class shader in the entire game). In Far Cry, the FX 5700 gets beaten down by the 9600 XT (the supposedly equivalent card to the FX 5700).

Don't get the FX 5700.

I bought a 5900 for my computer, and I haven't been dissapointed(sp?)It plays Doom 3 High Quality no AA with all AO on 45-60 FPS, Its only 128 MB too :O

You will either be running half precision in HL2 and source games or almost half performance as DX8.1 mode. Link

Doom3 is not a DX9 game and it has mostly basic effects. Doom3 is in the same class as UT2003 where the 9800 and 5900 cards and below will perform similar.

When you go to Farcry, Tombraider, HL2, Splinter Cell, Deus Ex 2, Painkiller, Max Payne 2, Theif, Hitman 3, Colin McRae Rally4, Nascar 2004 etc Link
You will get the performance hit compared to the 9600/9800 cards.
