I'm getting a new laptop that includes a GeForce Go 6800 Ultra, however for $350 more I can get a 7800 Ultra. Is the performance of a 7800 Ultra a significant leap over the 6800 Ultra? $350 is a lot of money considering the GeForce 6800 is a really good card, but I want pretty high end system. I've been an ATI man so I'm not too clear on GeForce cards
Thanksss

Considering that in Laptops you cannot upgrade the GFX card...it might very well be worth the extra cash. Do you plan on keep the laptop more than a couple years and want it to for gaming?

True, that. If your laptop is your main gaming engine, get the 7800. I upgraded (?) from a 6800 to an x800 then to a 7800, and I notice a difference. However! What's the max resolution on your laptop? I like the 7800 because it drives the games on my HD at nice framerates. If the top resolution on your laptop is 1600x1200, maybe stick with the 6800 - at that resolution, the difference is there, but less pronounced.

Thanks a lot for the help everyone

The resolution is 1920x1200 so I think I will get the 7800, thanks a lot

Another question: is the difference between an Intel Pentium M Processor 770 (2.13 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB) and an Intel Pentium M Processor 780 (2.26 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB) big? Because the latter is $300 more

Nice! My 7800 runs HL2 at 1920x1200 with everything turned on full blast, so you're in for a treat.

By the way, here are the specs:
Intel Pentium M Processor 770 (2.13 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
17" UltraSharp Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce Go 7800 Ultra
24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive

What do you think? I would prefer faster processor, but I'll take what I can get

No - desktop. Check out my lee7 sig! (kidding)...
Pentium 3.8GHz EE, ASUS P5WD2, 1GB Corsair DDR2-800 (@400MHz:E), BFG 7800 GTX, SCSI drives, SATA dvd, audio, power, blah, blah... that's the core anyway. What's the laptop got under the hood?

Nice specs on that laptop mate. The processor should be just fine, especially as pentium m's love gaming

:)

Enjoy !!!
