... has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvience.

So, this comes up and when I close it, my sounds disappear. Control panel shows no sound device or anything. Winamp also gives a error message "Bad driver" or something. After boot sounds work just fine. I have tried to reinstall the sound drivers, both my AC97 intergrated, and my Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS:s, which I mainly use for my sounds because of its better quality :P. I can find similar problems with google, but I dont get any shutdown messages or slowdown. Microsoft's page gave me a advice to reinstall my scanner/printer drivers. Thing is, I dont have one...
I also found a windows hotfix or something, installed it, no help.

So, ideas? Its getting pretty frustrating to boot up every half an hour :P
EDIT: Also checked for adware/spyware. Only found one tracking cookie, surprisingly no help.

Have you installed/uninstalled any software recently that could have caused this error to start appearing, apparently it affects people who have just installed service pack 2 for windows xp. I tried googling the problem, but I dont have much time to sit a go through the results. I think that when the generic host process crashes, it causes general system instability, which explains why you have to restart to get your sound working because teh host has somehow affected the sound drivers (i think). I would recommend windows update and also try a system restore to a point when you know it was working ok. Other than that, try googling the problem. Hope this helps.

I just installed both sound drivers all over again for the heck of it, and havent got any errors since :O Seems like the problem fixed itself.

And duffers20, I dont have service pack 2, and the problem has been occuring ever since I formatted (about a week ago). And I have installed all the updates from microsoft... Still, doesnt matter if it stopped occuring now.

The **** I did.
Just came back from watching a movie at a friends, and saw the same ****ing error on the screen. Aaaargh.

Ok. An idea. Just remembered that my Catalysts usually shit themselves during install. So I try to install them all over again. Nope, the installation stops at ATI WDM and I have to manually close it, and it babbles something about RPC procedures, and then goes to install ACCC. That goes fine, but when I come into Windows, I get a cli.exe error. So from here I can deduct that the drivers are being pooped on. Games play fine tho.
