Audi announced in 2005 that the name of the successful Audi R8 race car would be used for a new road car in 2007, the Audi R8, based on the Audi Le Mans quattro concept car, appearing at the 2003 Geneva Auto Show and 2003 International Motor Show. The R8 was officially launched at the Paris Auto Show on 30 September 2006. There is some confusion with the name, which the car shares with the Le Mans winning R8 LMP and also the 1989 Mk2 Rover 200, codenamed R8.

A girl on campus had one for about a month. I saw it leaving town on the back of a flatbed after it appeared to have hit a telephone pole. They're definitely attractive cars...it makes me so jealous of these students with parents that buy them R8's, m coupes, e55's, etc...I know people say I'll learn the value of a dollar better, but damnt I want a ****ing free R8.

No joke. I was so stoked when I got my first RX-7. It cost me $900 *Talked him down from $1,200 * and I felt great. The most expensive car I bought *besides my RX-8* was a 1988 RX-7 TII which cost me $2,800. Everybody always thought the car was from my parents, but damnit, I bought it with my own money! *And a $1,500 loan from a bank*
