The classic video game was put on an index of controlled titles in 1994 as it was deemed likely to harm youth.

Like pornography, sales of the violent shoot 'em up were restricted to adult-only stores.

The rules have been relaxed because officials believe that Doom is now only of artistic and scientific interest and will not appeal to youngsters.

However, one version of the game remains on the index because it features Nazi symbols on some levels.

Discuss.

nazi symbols only appear in a secret level of Doom II.

levels 31 and 32 I believe..

I've played and modded more doom than I'm proud of.

Someone should remake doom.. not like Doom3, just insane, with everything like the original.. like super fast running speed, centralised view models, no reloading, exploding barrels, vibrant colours and a nightmare mode.. ah forget it.. Doom is too good.

there was reloading on the super shotgun in doomII, but that consisted of a delay between firing.

Oh, and J Carmack is working on Doom 4 which I believe is supposed to be a remake of the original. Of course, it's still in the pre-alpha stages.

Cool welcome to the 20th century, Germany.
