Get a Life, a Half-Life 2 single player mod boasting around 11 hours of game time, has been released with a follow up patch hitting the ‘net shortly after. “Get a Life” centers around a subway technician with leukemia whose past is connected to the center of the plot. Being a Total Conversion all HUD, 24 Maps and 13 weapons are custom built for this large mod.

To download “Get a Life” simply go to their website, and visit their downloads section. Make sure to also download the patch to fix up some of the smaller bugs.

ya ive had this mod for a couple of days now, was waiting for a patch; hopefully it fixed my problem

Never heard of this mod. Not that I'm tracking SP mods for HL2.

Can you post any impressions? Or did your problem prevent you from playing?

I'll be downloading as soon as it reaches the end of the month - thus not really breaking my 'net cap.

i like it so far, its creepy and you dont know what the hell is going on.

I absolutly had no clue why and what i had to do ... also had a very VERY irritating bug where the camera shake didnt turn off.
Still not a bad mod at all, worth a try in my opinion ...

edit: lol, apperantly it wasnt a bug. Thing is, while the motion blur/screenshake is going on, you have to solfe this puzzle in a garage by pressing buttons etc, problem is, you cant read the map which shows you how to solfe the puzzle. It made me randomly run through the room pressing "e" hoping to active something to solve it.

Despite all the complaints of bugs, this looks interesting...one of the first SP mods I've seen that aren't just HL2 in a different setting. :x

They should have chosen a better name though..."Get a Life" makes it sound like some comedy game like DayHard.

This is ridiculous, one shot automatically makes you start bleeding out. Now, if it was just that it wouldn't be so bad, but the gigantic blood splashes on your screen make it rather hard to play when hurt.

Maybe my standards are too high, but this mod is seriously lacking.

Recycled HL2 combat, despite the game's claims at newness (the newness is only the player damage system, which is not fun). Confusing and lacking plot. Extremely poor dialogue ('Hi it's me, YOUR SISTER. I accidentally gave you the wrong treatment for your Leukemia.' lolwut). 'Dream' sequences which are just confusing and lame. A complete lack of spit and polish in the map department: misaligned textures, weird glitches, npc's popping into the map in the distance. Also, the sequence where you get in the elevator was retarded. I was so confused as to what to do--oh wait, crawl on a tiny little pipe that looks like a detail prop, and manoeuvre my way back onto the stairs, which were hitherto blocked by burning steam, but are suddenly hazard free?

Well, after getting some more medkits and patching myself up, it's not so bad. It's got a nice atmosphere most of the time, too bad it tends to crash.

I've only played a few hours but I must tip my hat to the team.

Rivals the ass kicking I got the first time I played Half-Life (oh man.... acne)
It does rip off Half-Life 1 and 2 but it's using whats available in a new context so I don't mind.

Download it now.

The flashlight gun is brilliant.

I played till the generator part.
this mod is FULL of bugs! I counted more than 9 bugs.
starting from places I weren't supposed to go, same ****ing model asking me
"you wanna buy ticket? no? the get off!" **** him I was under a train and h asked me that..

I can't get into what must be just about the last level. Frustrating...I can see inspiration from SoF, FEAR, STALKER, Far Cry, System Shock, HL, Minerva and Doom 3. Sometimes it gets a bit repetitive but not like Halo hehe. For a mod it's good enough, hopefully they'll get the final levels fixed which took me a long time to reach at HARD. Sometimes it gets a bit too obvious that the smacked a bunch of levels together, but the difficulty level isn't that high at all, except for the square where you can easily get pinned down and killed until you figure out the right way to do it.

So I'm in the city and I've reached an upstairs room with jets of steam blocking the only path out...what do I do?

I've only just started (got to my job), but I'm enjoying the atmosphere, music, and weapon flare/light thingy

Finished it. Didn't like the rehashed gameplay, BUT, it didn't bore me throughout my playthrough, so it gets points for that.
