Ok, I just got a new dsl connection. After having replugged everything and configured everything I could think I still coudnt reach the web, although I can get it to work just fine without the router as demonstrated by this post. Obiusly I ****ed something up as I cannot even access the router now. So I need a little help doing that. Its a d-link DI-604, thank you.

Are you sure that you have everything plugged in the right spots?

I dont think so, at least the IP I get when I run ipconfig is the same when I try to access the router as it is now, and yes I configure my computer to recieve an ip adress automatically.

All the shiny lights tell me so :)

Reseting it was what I tried first (hate those little holes you have to insert a pen or the like into) and it did not do anything.

Hmm, thats odd.

So your IP is not 192.168.xxx.xxx?

Are you using a proxy server?

and you have the dsl cable in the WAN? hmmm...i think you broke it.

If your DSL company assigned you a static IP you have to program that into the router. But turn off the computers, the router, and modem (unplug if you can't switch them off). Then turn on the modem and wait for all lights to be steady, next plug the modem ethernet cable into the WAN port of the router and turn on the router and wait for it to go through it's tests. Next turn on your PC and see if you can access the router/internet. I don't know what else you can do. What kind of router are you using anyway?

Hmm, I cant think of anything else that would stop you accessing the router setup page.

If you're sure everything is plugged in right, try turning your router/modem/computer off and on again.

I will just have to do what I did last time I ahd this problem, call customer support :(

Customer Support Workers are bred to be terminally annoying and about as understandable as David Bechams hairstyle.

I reccomend using a technique that has helped me get through countless interactions with Call Centre Employees, McDonalds workers, and PC World staff.

Everytime they do something stupid/annoying/soul-destroying, take a deep breath and think to yourself: They Exist To Serve You.

Thats got me through some tough times. :E

If your IP is the same with and without the router, then you are not recieving a DHCP lease from the router.

Try this:
  • Forget about the modem for now. Unplug it, turn it off, etc.
  • Shut off PC.
  • Reset router.
  • Bring PC up.
  • Manually release your current DCHP lease and obtain a new one. If you're using Win XP, run this: ipconfig /release && ipconfig /renew
  • Try to access your router setup page, typically at http://192.168.0.1:80.

yea when i called the EA tech support the guy was a JACKASS i hate EA and i hate their workers. So i have a new moto

"EA WILL go to hell" and to add on to that "and the tech support guy too!!"

Thanks for the help guys, Ill let you know that I knew more about how to get the router to work than the tech support guy. I got it work though, I dont why it works though. I believe that I accidently performed an occult ritual that got it to work :)
