Getting alot of Choke.....

While playing CS, what settings do i need the change to mess with to get rid of this. Sometimes choke will go as high 10-20, usually around 3- 4. Is this normal?

What is your connection speed? When you open steam right click on the little steam icon bottom right and click on settings >internet, and select the appropiate speed.

1.5 meg NTL. To be honest i know i have CS setup correctly and have done for a while now but i have only reformatted the computer and this is the first time i have put on CS because of the new map Prodigy and i have noticed this lag that makes the game look like its chugging occasionaly. Looked at net_graph 3 and it is saying that i am getting choke and i know there is away to tweak it to get rid of this choke but i don't know how. Help!

Copied from another forum .. try it out;

net_graph 3 - type this in console, you'll get a screen of numbers and such.

rate - i run 25000, atleast put this over 10000, 25000 is max(might be 20000 now)

cl_updaterate - This is server info going to you. usually i run 100, to tweak this, look at your choke on the net_graph screen, if its more than 10, lower this, keep lowering til choke is nearly gone. Do not put below 30. If you have choke after lowering this to 30, adjust your rate, sometimes you'll get choke if it is too low.

cl_cmdrate - This is info going from you to server. 100, you shouldn't ever have to change this. If you have loss, you might want to try lowering, again, not below 30.

Now thats a good reply, ill copy and paste that useful info for whenever i need it, ive noticed i only seem to get it on prodigy map. Thanks!
