My friend recently had both his Steam accounts stolen somehow. We don't know how they got stolen, and no, he didn't fall for those stupid AIM scammers. But that doesn't matter. His passwords/emails/secret questions were all changed, so he can no longer access either account in any way. One of them was purchased with a credit card he owns.

One of these two accounts had a very low SteamID, so it is very valuable. The person who stole it was dumb enough to register in CAL with it, so we now know his IRC channel and AIM.

This is where we need your help. How can we get it back from him? Valve hasn't done anything yet (after multiple support tickets) and most likely won't.

The only thing I can think of is to try to scam it back from him, but chances are that won't work. Anybody have any better ideas? :/

You wont get him to give it to you.
Best bet is to keep asking Valve.

Threaten to h4x his PC... rolf rolf.

keep trying through Valve.
the Steam forums might be more helpful in this than here but yeah.. it does suck to have an account stolen.

good luck.

Go to steam forums, report the guy, and wait.

This should be obvious, tell CAL that this loser is using a stolen steam account/ID thing.

If one of the accounts has had his credit card used on it, I'm sure that if your friends had records of his credit transactions, he could use that as proof that one of the accounts was his and I'm sure that Valve keeps records of credit purchases as well....

You probably can't. You're screwed.

I've had my account stolen before. Go here and explain everything with detail. Tell your friend it'd help to have pictures of the CD-Key and all of the CD's/DVD laying out. He'll get it back in a few days.

Hehe that could work. If it was me, I'd just let it go. I have access to a ton of accounts between me and my friends, and they don't mind if I use them. We basically just share them, it's good for lan parties.

(and no this is not piracy, so no banning please)

email valve, happened to a friend, what they might do is ask you to take a picture of the hl2 box or something and they will get you a new one. They even sent him a free hl2 shirt

SteamID's aren't worth anything I laugh at people that say their account is worth money since its a low ID#.

Same here, I completely forgot the info for a really old account I once had, so I just crammed as much as information into that Support Ticket as it could possibly hold.

3 days later, bam :D

Yeah, its the amount of content/packages on there that is of worth.

this thread got me thinking...for those that have purchased all their Valve games through Steam, they really don't have any physical proof (ie CD-KEY) that the said account is theirs assuming the account is stolen somehow.

i think a easy way to avoid this would be for Valve to send an Authentic CD-KEY and some sort of unique seal at the time of purchase... and this is strictly talking purchases through Steam.
and this way, if the account is ever stolen, the user can just mail Valve these said items as proof and then the account can be reset and these same items can be re-mailed back to the user.
