getting music via internt (legally)

I know of Itunes, but i dont have an Ipod, and I will never conform to that bastardly device. My question is, will music off of Itunes play without an Ipod, and are there any other sources of music on the internet besides Itunes? I just dont want to have to buy tons of CD's and have songs overlapp.

iTunes music will play in iTunes and you can burn it to cd.

I love Itunes to bits, even with my non-Ipod MP3 player. However, I happen to burn everything I get to CD for backup and my car, so converting it to mp3 after that is no issue for me.
