Starcraft, Diablo 1 and 2, Warcraft 2.

i do this whenever i upgrade my computer.I try the games that worked poorly on my old comp and try them on my new one

If you're willing to pay $50(new game releases are usually expensive.) get Mass Effect.

...Get it on the PC.

Along with Company of Heroes + Opposing Fronts.
... and Enemy Territory : Quake Wars.

Wait... nearly ?800GBP for THAT?! (For the yanks, thats like 1,530 USD!!!! What would you build for that price!?!?)

Jesus man, it could be built for a fraction of the cost. (not just a tiny bit less, I mean like.... wow if I had 800 quid to spend on a system I'd be getting something at least twice as better adapted to gaming than that.

Epic, epic lulz if you get a 32-bit OS.

They used all the tricks in the book! 4gb Ram, 1gb shit graphics (pretending itll work as 2gb twice as fast in SLI) As if the quad core's gunna be any better at games than a cheaper, yet faster dual core...

Be sure to somehow make use of that warranty (just to get your money's worth) destroy it a week before it ends to make them pay for a new system again, then maybe you arent being ripped off... (Don't take me too seriously) - In response to a foreseeable "Neptune, stop being a prick!!"

Ignoring the excessive price and general decieving nature of buying PCs from such places my main arguement for building your own PC would be the fact that all the parts usually come with 1 year or MORE cover for free in case of failure.. SHIT some components have a lifetime guarantee! You won't get any of that. This fact invalidates any possible advantage to buying PCs from places like Dell etc.

Games -

Have you got or played any or all of these??? Playing these on a machine recently upgraded or built for the occasion for the first time is always a good experience!Turn the graphics right up and be sure and max that shit out! (Maybe not Crysis)

Crysis
Bioshock
FEAR - the original (yeah its old but ****ing sweet with soft shadows enabled and everything maxed out!! ^_^)
FEAR multiplayer!!! Maxed out graphics with smooth frames at an intense speed online is something not to be missed!!! The multiplayer component of the game has been well updated and supported over the past couple of years!

I've got fear and bioshock but yeah I planned to get crysis.

And I am not fussed about the price (BTW it's going to be more than 800 as I will customise it to about ?950 by changing the graphics cards to 2 9600 GTs) as it is a present for my exam results :)

That's some treat!

(Even if you failed the exams I'd say get the computer regardless - drown out the sorrows in games!)
:D

What machine are you currently using?

Oh also, definitely get Call of Duty 4 and crank that shit up, looks gorgeous.

In fact, I think I'll reinstall it for the imminent map pack/patch release on June 5th.

Bioshock, FEAR, Orange Box, Oblivion, call of duty 4, etc. just do a search for top selling PC games and eliminate anything you don't like - for example Blizzard games

hmm good tips guys :) Annoying thing is most games you suggest I have on my PC or 360 :P

What machine are you currently using?

the now i am using

3.4 GHZ P4
1 GB RAM
ATi X600

I died a little inside.
I was unaware that such machines we're still.... used!

Such a machine exists in my household as well.

it's ... got a better processor than mine.

:(

I should order some stuff, need processor, mobo, RAM, and GPU.

but... I want a new house.. I CANT FIND A PLACE

i want to crawl in a hole and die. alternatively, i may want to crawl in a hole and live.

IMHO, all you need to do is replace your X600 with an 8800GT and call it a day.

total price $160

then put the ~$1400 extra in the bank

qft

Can't really recommend any newer games tbh, last great PC game I remember playing was the most recent Hitman, other than that it's a lot of Fallout, EverQuest, and Jedi Outcast

Company of Heroes, Starcraft, Dawn of War, STALKER, all Valve games, FEAR if you can get it cheap, UT3 (THIS will stress your system)

500w i plan to upgrade that too

i'm customising the graphics cards, PSU and changing the keyboard and mouse

Doesn't everyone hate UT3 and no one plays it? O_o

Also I said no blizzard :P

Honestly I never take criticism on games from this forum. If a game is put as mediocre or crappy, I'd probably try it and like it. If they like it, there's a 50% of me liking it. I'm now sure how much you concur with these people.
That being said, UT3 roxxors joo boxors.

i don't just mean only this forum I hear this alot it seems :|

Well the only sources I have are friends, this place, and the Epic forum. Some random people on other non-gaming forums too. No one outside of this place I've seen disliking it (of course there's the change hating people on the epic forums, but they don't post much obviously).

1 9600gt may be enough for you depending on the monitor size. i can play every game thats out maxed out(exception of crysis) at 1680x1050 with AA/AF at 16x .

If you like UT99's feel and weapons... you'll probably dig UT3.

Myself, I didn't like the demo so I stayed away.
UT2004 still reigns.

Hmm I might pick it up as it is quite cheap on play.com

Nah..... 8800gt + extra 1gb RAM....

$200... then it's a day to be called! lol

This assumes it's PCI-e however.

I did that once with a TV I'd rented to buy. Near the end of the rental period the TV "stopped working" got a replacement of a better model and bought it a few weeks later for $1. Quickly sold it as brand new :)

I mean hi, nothing dodgy here. Frankly you'd be better off with a homebrew system anyway.

Asus P5KSE $103
Intel E8400 $218
Generic Nvidia 8800GT $207
Generic 2gb DDR2 800 $50
Thermalcrap 470watter or well anything 400-550watts $70
Cheap 22" Monitor $230
Case of choice $?
Extra shit here $?

878.00 AUD
=
423.680 GBP

Just for core components, amazing.
