My one dog has a huge knot on his hind left paw and he absolutely has scissors. I was wondering if any of you wonderful forumites would know of any other methods of knot removal other than traq'ing him and uses scissors (running the risk of cutting him)?

*Edit* I was a little unclear about the knot in question, it's a couple of knots around his paw and tangled together in some sort of hairy cancoon thing.

well i can't see how you'd do any damage using scissors unless you or the dog have some kind of serious problem.

Those matted knots are very hard to wash or tease apart you are best cutting it.

You could burn it off if you were sadistic.

Hmm... I have 3 dogs (2 short hair and 1 long hair) and I've never cut my dog with the removal of knots, try to get it when it's sleeping/really tired, and make sure the scissors are warm so the coldness of the scissors won't startle your dog.

I'm not sure what to advise. Perhaps if you washed it with shampoo or just water and brushed it at the same time you could thin it out considerably to avoid using blades. Or use the scissors when your dog is sleeping if you are very careful.
