Gf got a wii very cool but...

I know you can connect the wii via wireless and I was wanting to do this but not by the nintendo usb wirless key for it (the reviews were crap) so I was wandernig if its possible to get a wirless usb and use it instead to set up a network to it ?

Rather than buying a router which I think can be expensive I just want to get a wireless usb key plug it in install the hardware if any and connect the wii to the internet to download games

Any ideas

Sure, it should work fine. I used my ASUS WIFI thing to connect my Wii to the net. There is a whole bunch here, as long they suppport the same security and network as the Wii everything should be fine.

Are you saying you don't have wifi already? If you happen to have a neighbor with an unsecured access point, then a regular USB wifi should work through their connection, otherwise, no.

If your computer has a wifi adapter, and has a certain chipset, I think there's some convoluted way to make a "software" access point that the wii can see, but it won't do ad-hoc, as far as I know. You can get a router pretty cheap, it would make things much easier.
