Hi - I've got an Asylum GeForce 4 Ti4200 - SE 256 Bit 128 MB DDR RAM.

A few years back, my card ran fine, just when I had bought it. A good several months later, these strange glitches started to appear.

Green dots all over
Screen suddenly blinked
Strange colors all over the screen
temporary Distortion

and then I decided to take it off for a while. And then I reinstalled it, and took it off again. It's been like 5 months now that I don't use it, because something's definitely wrong with it.

specs:

2.4 GHz
Geforce MX 440 64 MB (as of right now)
512 RAM

thanks in advance

Sounds like your getting artifacts as a result of overheating or a dodgy card. I have no idea with the Ti series of cards and whether they had active/passive cooling on them - but make sure you have at least one fan pulling fresh air into (prefreably front) the case and one pushing some out the other way so nothing gets too hot.

Did you notice these after gaming for a while? or just during normal internet browsing etc.

Edit: oh yeah - be sure to clean out any excess dust from your case that might have built up - this could be why it worked okay for a while - and how powerful is your psu?

i think at first i'd only get the glitches while i was playing some game, but then it got worse...

my psu is 300W, which, according to the box, is the minimum psu needed...

thanks for the help :)

Woohoo!!!

I got the damn card to work. I thought it had broken and gone forever. But it didn't! YES! And for the first time I was able to see what a shader looks like... damn... CSS is a whole lot faster and prettier... woot

thanks for the help :)

Umm... ok. It's definitely not the psu, the only thing it could be is the cooling, could have a bad cooler and the artifacts are a result of overheating. If they come back again, which I think they could, maybe consider a new card or try a new cooler.

*tear*

Surely enough, they came back, and I am almost certain the problem is going to become worse. I can't really spend too much money on a new card, so

The graphics card comes with a fan, is that not enough? Where can I get some cooling device... newegg?

note: i could search myself for a cooling device, but i don't know much about cooling devices for geforce ti's, and i'd be greatful if someone could help me once again

I used IceberQ4 VGA cooling kit for my MSI Geforce 4 TI 4200. It has a blue LED! lol. And it does a good job. In the kit you get the fan, thermal grease, 4 memory heatsinks and thermal tapes.

Ok, I got it all worked out. I'm gonna get the iceberq 4 Pro, which is for the card I have. I had to temporarily remove the card because it got so bad it caused the computer to lock up.

Back to the ol' mx 440 for now... *laughs evilly...* *cries*

Yeah it should definitely be the cooling, the fan must be bad, the times it works the fan is working, but it sounds like it gets jammed or just isn't effective anymore because of some problem. Getting it replaced should do it. If not, I have a feeling the card is bad.
