Hey

I have a RADEON 9800 pro 128mb and when I play HL2 on 1280x1024 with the highest settings with the latest drivers, I get really low FPS (about 20 -30) lots of the time.

I'm going to buy a 9800 xt 256mb, for the same price as i can sell my current grafics card,
and i was just wondering if this would make Half Life 2 run Smoothly on my computer?

Any help would be very appreciated. :)

Cheers :D

My Specs: (incase they are needed)
3.0 GHz
1024 RAM
120 GIG HardDrive
RADEON 9800 Pro 128mb.

Your wasting your money, there is a tiny difference between the 98pros and XTs.

Either leave it or save up some more for a x800 series card.

Not really, it's not a big upgrade. If the video card still has 128-bit memory, then the 256mb isn't that big of difference. I wouldn't bother.

What you should do is not try to play the game on the highest settings since you don't have the greatest card. Don't know why you thought you could do that.

i got 2.6ghz pentium
512 ram
radeon 9800 xt 256mb

running 89fsp

im suprised your frame rate is so slow. i would expect a lot better. i mean im getting on my second system :-

1.6 pentium 4
1.25gb ram
radeon medion 9600tx 128mb

54fps on 1024x768 high settings high textures etc reflect all

Yeah, the 9800 XT is not much faster than the 9800 Pro usually and is often pretty much the same.

You can try turning down AA (antialiasing) and AF (anisotropic filtering) in the options to boost framerate. 4x AA is fine.

All the good recent cards are tested on HL2 here:

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2278&p=1

That should tell you what to expect from most other cards and help you work out which is worth upgrading to, if any.
