Giant Bomb acquired by CBS, moves back to GS tower.

That's pretty shitty and I can only imagine this taking away from their current methods of game coverage, but we'll have to see.

can anyone tell me about that giantbomb site that is so famous? also that site has that guy that was fired form gamespot due to some kane and lynch review isnt it?

Dubious about this, but I can't really imagine them changing to accommodate Gamespot, especially after the shit that resulted in Giant Bomb being formed in the first place.

Edit: For RJ's benefit and anyone else who isn't wise to GB - they're a news and reviews site on the surface, but are much more renowned for their video content and podcasts, which have a very loose "anything goes" kind of feel to them. People get into the site for the personalities and their sense of humour, not to mention that they seem pretty impartial as far as their opinions on games. Often in Quick Looks - essentially video previews - they'll straight up tell people not to buy a game if they find it sufficiently horrible.

Actually, I wonder how much this acquisition will effect that side of things - they might need to be a bit more careful about what they say about a game before the review comes in. That would suck.

Here's Jeff's first feature in the Gamespot building, goes into why he was fired originally in quite a lot of detail, and also some other stuff I didn't bother watching. It's basically what people suspected - that management were afraid of losing ad revenue as a result of Jeff and his staff giving unfavourable reviews to certain games, namely Kane and Lynch. What I wasn't aware of is that this was right after they'd instituted a new scoring system which brought their average score down by a full point and was therefore already causing a bit of tension. Jeff, as editorial director at the time, took the brunt of all this and wound up without a job.

Anyway, he explains it much better than that. Skip to about 4 minutes if you don't care about the introductory stuff.

Seems like an attempt of an apology from Gamespot. The sites aren't merging. Essentially, Giantbomb is just moving to Gamespot's offices and then being linked from Gamespot's website. That's the jist, at least, I got from the video above. As long as the team stays intact, this probably is a good thing. Always safe to be skeptical, though.

Been listening to a best of compilation of the 2011 bombcasts from this fantastic site and, man, I really hope CBS or Gamespot don't put a muzzle on them as far as just talking freely about games or whatever the **** they want to talk about. They're really a lot of fun to listen to sometimes, particularly because of how frank and unfiltered the discussion is. Listening to them tear apart Duke Nukem Forever, for instance, was pretty hilarious. "I've got balls of sadness."

Binary Domain turned out to be really awesome, but the voice recognition works like dog shit.
