Simple ask of the general art people. How do I get a .gif to look like a .png when dealing soft edges against backgrounds.
KA's pea sized brain couldn't help without visual so here I must make a post with examples.

avatar6451622gifv.png

A PNG

avatar6451622gifz.gif

As Opposed to its .gif

avatar2hzp.png

And again a PNG

avatar2d.gif

With it's identical .gif

How do you make the Gif look EXACTLY like the png using Photoshop CS(etc)?

Umm did you try to edit the picture in photoshop? I'm pretty sure there are filters for it.

I'm not sure you can do it. The compression is done as you save the image, so nothing you do before than will really help, it will still be turned to shit as a .gif.

.gif files suck btw. The only thing they're useful for is animated gifs.

It can't be done really. From what I know, GIF does not support partial transparency. It's either all or nothing. And so getting an object to blend into the background would require skilled and tedious work manually getting it to blend in with a background. But what it blends for one, it won't blend well for another as a result.

solution: use png all the time. gif is basically png's father and is outclassed in every way by his son

Yeah except the fact that it can't be animated.

Without extra shit.

We def need a new gif.

We need cooler native image formats in general. The ones we have now are so oooold. I bet people could come up with cool shit.

I do need it animated.

I'm just a detail whore...

Doesnt that require special plugins or viewers? Ew.

No, although Animated SVG requires JavaScript.

Examples of Animated PNG.

Those animated PNGs aren't working for me in Chrome.

Such is my point...
