an Austrian girl who was kidnapped in 1998 and kept in a cell with no link to the outside world escaped when her captor commited suicide. She's been completley brainwashed and has stockholm syndrome. She calls the guy who kidnapped her "master" and no longer wants to see her parents.

Damn. That's messed up. Hopefully she gets better.

Jesus.

I sure hope he didn't train her to speak in opposites...

Sucks for her.

8 years in a hole with virtually no contact with the outside world (she could watch videos from time to time) and probably abused by her captor.

Hope she gets well.

She doesnt seem too bad considering it was 8 years. She was aparently schooled by the guy, so she is fairly smart (although what else, or how he taught her we can't know). And the fact that she cried when the guy died doesnt mean she was sad. She could have been crying because she was happy to be able to be free of him after 8 years. Or perhaps she was just sad because she finally realized she had lost 8 years of her life.

But damn... how do you resume a normal life after something like that?

That is one strong willed person. Stokholm Syndrom is possibly the only way some people would be able to survive some circumstances. Comming out of that alive and well is a mark of bravery and courage. Hopefully she pulls through, though.

Horrible story, i hope she gets all the help she needs to change her psychological state, although i'm convinced something as traumatic as this can ever be fixed in a person. I'm sure she'll progress alot from where she is, but never be perfect. There is definately a shred of herself left in there as she had the intiative to escape from this guy, so she knew she was in a bad situation. The letter she sent her dad is extremely sad, but with hope which is nice. 'We have all the time in the world'. :)

Or maybe she was brainwashed by someone with serious mental disabilities. I think I'm going to go with that one.

Yeah, the note actually made me choke up a bit. Sad story. I don't know why these stories get me emotionally worked up, but for some reason, reading about a guy falling down stairs and killing himself while robbing someone makes me laugh...

Maybe it's just because she really didn't deserve any of the torment she's been put through...and the letter just really hits the nerve at the end.

yeah what an awful life this girl missed have endured, so sad :(

She wants to be left alone for now.
She is feeling alright.
She doesnt feel like she missed out on things.
She will not anwser questions about the perhaps sexual realtionship.
She says her life was full of fear and lonelyness but, other then that it was "normal"
eg: watching TV ,making Breakfast and stuff

edit: she doesnt even want contact with her famliy right now.
