- Rudolph Giuliani all but announced he is running for president last night, saying "I'm in this to win" and suggesting the only thing left to make it official is a formal declaration.

"We still have to formally announce it and do a few more things, but this is about as close as you're going to get," Giuliani said on Fox News Channel.

Giuliani's appearance was part of a carefully choreographed effort by his campaign to put to rest questions among Republicans about whether he is serious about running.

Interesting. A moderate Republican with a demonstrated ability to face a terrible crisis and respond effectively. No WONDER the rest of the GOP doesn't like him.
And he's running against McCain for nomination? Wow, I'm hoping for the GOP to split like the Catholic Church. This is going to be another interesting election year.

the republicans are screwed - they don't have anyone who will appeal to the base in the heartland ie. pro guns, anti abortion, pro military, anti tax, pro 'god', anti gay etc.

I find it funny that anyone would support a candidate on the basis that he's less radical than his predecessors

I support Giuliani because he'd make a great president.

If Giuliani and Obama both win the primaries, I'm gonna be in a pickle indeed. Who to vote for D:

I agree. Perhaps they'd be good running mates. :)

i would be in the same position as you since i kinda like obama, but guilliani, from what i know, fits my political beliefs.

I like Obama, and it seems he believes in a lot of what I do, but Giulianai did prove himself very capable in a crisis.

I think im still going to go for Obama, because I would find it hard to believe he would mess up during times of crisis, and everything he does regularly will probably more to my liking than a republican.

But there is a lot of time left, and if any one republican could it my vote, it would probably be Giuliani.

Man, the Republicans really want me to vote for them in '08. And they're lining up a fairly sexy offer.

Tbh I'd rather see Obama first, if not him, then Mcain, if not Mcain then clinton, and if not clinton then guliani.

I'm surprised people are so ready to vote republican again. Did the last six or more years not happen or something?

If giuliani is allowed to become the president, it'll be because they're pandering to democracy-minded folks, attempting to re-consolidate their power so that the subsequent president can be George Bush 3.

Not really. It's common sense.
After the last six years, a comparatively liberal pinko like Giuliani or McCain is the only hope for a republican presidency.
They're comprimising their values to stay in office.

I like Obama.

I really wish that they would do away with the political party system.

lol mecha. He would not be another George Bush. I will not buy into your democratic propaganda!

Haha, just kidding. not really

Bush and his cronies are not representative of the entire Republican party. They're not really true conservatives, either.

Then why is it that the current administration's policies get such a great deal of support on that specific side of the party line?

No, I don't buy that. They may not represent all republican voters, but they certainly represent the majority of republican politicians.

Also, Krynn, I didn't mean that Giuliani would end up being George Bush 3. I meant that the goal is to put him in office long enough for the people to forget about GB2.

Then in 2012, when GB2 is portrayed as a wacky mistake who "wasn't actually a real republican all along", they'll try to bring in the George Bush 3.
