Hey, i've been playing doom3 on and off for a while now and i've pretty much decided to stop playing, i don't mind aliens/zombies etc but most games like that - it's fun to kill them, in doom3 its more like, "**** he knocked 2 tonnes of shit outa me then", or "better save ammo and use the pistol" i mean even the chainsaw isn't that fun.

I think the fact it scares the shit out of me (and don't deny it, you too) that takes it from fun-scary to shit-scary.

What do you think?

Well you dont miss much at the ending anyway :P

I agree that Doom 3 was average - but not scary. Each to their own I guess.

I still like Doom, once the weather cools down I'll be playing it again. The scares still scare me, forgetting most of it so its interesting each time I play it. Coupled with the fact there's not a lot else out there to play (even gone off morrowind for the time being, though I admit thats to try avoid using too much from it in SW)

doesnt scare me too much... a shame... because the fact that it runs at several frames per second, spoils the moment :|

i have yet to be killed by a monster in realtime...:(

hence why i dont have it installed or play it

Thats too bad, it really is a very very good game when its tweaked to high heaven and playing nicely.

Try turning some effects off, the dynamic shadows are cool but turned off the framerate is much better.

ive turned everything to lowest, tried everything i can think of, i suppose it just wasnt meant to be played on a 1.6 ghz/512,b ram/64mb GF4 pc ;(;(

i found it REALLY fun aswell ;( (its great at 2am with surround sound in the dark :))

Hang in there, I'm sure there are quite a few tips and tricks sites out there/coming up that show how to squeeze every last frame per second out of it.

Last resort you could always turn off bump and specularity. Big of an increase but doesn't look brilliant.

Or I suppose you could go to the lengths of unpacking all the pak files, and running all the textures through a converter to make them 50% smaller. I'd probably back up first. But surely doing that would make a big difference speedwise. Even if it would make things pretty blurry/blocky

I've got it sorta playable on a 1gig with a geforce4mx, so you should be able to get it working ok. Just don't expect super fast speeds, it wont run like that even for the faster machines, not for a while yet.

:):):):):)

i dont like my geforce 4 mx... and IT doesnt like ME

wooooooooooooooooooo! that was pretty gd! :D well pld

When I start it, the atmosphere is tense/scarish for like 10 minutes, and then you get used to it and just blast everything to shreds with the shotgun while running through the maps.

I've given up on it too, eventhough I'm not even that far into the game yet, but I'm having more fun spawning enemies in empty testmaps with cheats on. And that says more about the gamedesign than about me.

Boring game, nice gfx is all it had.

Im up to monorail and now my flashlight has start to bug. There was very little making me want to playing the game seing that its taken me 2 weeks to get that far. And now with no flashlight, i really dont see the point.
Sure its scared for 10 mins untill you get used to the rediculously ovious scripted events.

I don't know why you'd have to conserve ammo, you get tonnes of it in DooM 3, I had like 80 rockets by the end boss, 40 odd before I picked up the ammo stash.

Anyway, I found it pretty fun, more fun than FarCry anyhow, actually it was very similar to "Return to Castle Wolfenstein", especially at the end, therefore proving the point that all of id's games are the same (probably why you got board)!!

I'm expecting much more out of Half-Life 2 !!
