Again, slap me if there's already a post on this, but has anyone ever thought the way GLaDOS was saying "And when you're dead I will be still alive" means that there are back-ups, clones, whatever you may call them of GLaDOS? We all saw GLaDOS gets blown to bits at the end of Portal, right? People are saying that she wasn't destroyed, she just lost most of her cores, well I think she's dead. She was lying in bits among a pile of scrap. I thought that there might be another GLaDOS present on board the Borealis. In theory, Aperture Science designed a GLaDOS for each of their major 'things', such as their Enrichment Center, the Borealis, and whatever else they constructed. This is just a thought, and please.. no flaming.

At the end of Portal, you see various GLaDOS cores coming online in the Enrichment Center's 'basement.' Of course, you also see the Companion Cube and a cake, so I figure this scene is more than somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but that doesn't mean it isn't hinting at GLaDOS' continuance. I'd bet money GLaDOS is present on the Borealis. If you view the Borealis diagrams, you'll see GLaDOS mentioned, along with mention of the Material Emancipation Grid (and probably a few 'Portal' things I've missed).

The better question is... is the GLaDOS present on Borealis capable of being brought online in Episode 3, and will it be kept in check by a morality module? Or will it be more apt to flood the ship with neurotoxins? ;)

I think it would be cool, assuming that there will be GLaDOS aboard Borealis, if it made the atmosphere REALLY REALLY creepy.

Like, you could be walking down the corridor, thinking here's a ship, lalala, etc. then suddenly you hear a strange buzzing, and you can make out buzzing voices, and then something sudden and high-pitched comes out from say.. speakers on the wall, and the boat starts rocking, and lights start to dim, the shadows start to crawl, ugghh, that would make me shit bricks.

on the ship's schematics, the name GLaDOS is written on it

This has already been discussed. Yes, we think that's what is going to happen.

And you used the word theory wrong. ;D

how do you read the stuff about the borealis?

yes, you are exploring the ship, and you come to the ASHPD and all of a sudden you hear a machine pwer up and GLaDOS start talking:
"Very good, you are now in possesion of the aperture science halndeld portal device"

How did I use theory wrong? It's something I think might be true because of several sources of information, that's all. I'm pretty sure that's a theory.

From Gman theory to GLaDOS theory.

Answer: GLaDOS = Gman

People should bring up theories on the G-Man, Aperture Science, etc. on what they DO, rather than whether their names are similar.

Theory, hypothesis are used in non-technical contexts to mean an untested idea or opinion. A theory in technical use is a more or less verified or established explanation accounting for known facts or phenomena: the theory of relativity. A hypothesis is a conjecture put forth as a possible explanation of phenomena or relations, which serves as a basis of argument or experimentation to reach the truth: This idea is only a hypothesis. (dictonary.com)

Anyway, Soon I'm going to be making a thread stating all known facts that we know of so far. This might eliminate some of the shittay hypothesis threads.

Here's my hypothesis ;)

I think there are more GlaDOS. The ending shows there's a storage of GlaDOS cores, so she's by any means not the last of her kind, even if this particularly computer did perish.

The storage of GlaDOS may not be in the enrichment center, it may be somewhere else, where another instance of GlaDOS is running.

Perhaps, since she's able to recall what have happened, being dead and still singing, may imply that the systems are linked in a way. The singing may be conjured in another facility with another GlaDOS system, after loosing touch with its instance at the Enrichment Center. This is similar to todays computer systems, which though linking, can continue to function even if one node gets destroyed. Such as the Internet for example serve this purpose.

If this is the case it would be interesting to meet GlaDOS on Boralis, as this GlaDOS will have all the past knowledge of what happened in Portal. However it may not share the same personality - it was evident that the type of computer cores that was attached to the mainframe affected her personality. This personality may then have taken an impact being cut off from these.

If there's multiple systems of GlaDOS running which are linked together in a network, then it would not be possible to fully destroy her without destroying each node. Boralis and the Enrichment Center may not be the only locations - a node may be hidden in a more secure facility to ensure that the system cannot fail even if all its remote systems are destroyed. Would make sense from a scientific point of view, as it would prevent any data loss from occurring.

The primary goal for GlaDOS was to give Aparture an edge in data management, allowing them to reap the benefits of information sharing and information storage. Apart from her obvious malfunction, she is actually quite potent, as she holds within her all recorded tests and evaluations. This knowledge can then be put together into results without the need of hard human labor. Making sense of scientific test data is a pain, and can be comprehended in a infinite different ways depending on what the data should be used for. She also seems to be very well capable of management, and removes the time used for management so the scientists can focus on their field of work. I'd very much like that kind of management on my University ;) Human bureaucracy is slow like hell he he.

Answer: GLaDOS = Gman

I think that's kind of close, but I think that the G-Man is the Black Mesa answer to GLaDOS. Clearly he's not the one in control, he's just the front man. I played Portal first before I tackled HL2, so, I'm coming from a diff POV than most here, but when I first heard the G-Man speak when you arrive in City 17, the disjointed speech reminded me of GLaDOS, actually reminded me more of Agent Smith from The Matrix really. But the point is, the physics calculations required to power something like a hand held portal device, much less an interstellar portal device is beyond amazing. I mean, really, why would you develop a super powerful super computer first THEN start work on a device that breaks every nearly known law of physics?

Several reasons why not. The Gman is supposed to be a person, non-human (thus the disjointed speech) from elsewhere (possibly), working for higher powers, that we cannot see. There is a possibility behind your idea, and it seems almost plausible. But the evidence against it is just too high. He has the ability to control time and space, and lives in an area beyond our physical world, essentially where you go into "stasis". Besides, why would he speak to members of the Black Mesa team telling them about "unforseen consequences" if he's not in control?

Naw there's just maybe the chance of more copieds of Glados. XB
