So I do, and as soon as I get enough monies I am going to get a new pair. My current ones are 2 years old soon...

Anyway my question is, those glasses that adjust to changing light? What are they called?

1: Does anybody have experience with them?
2: Do they change fast enough when you go outside/return indoors, I heard they take like 30-60 seconds to change? The commercials show about 3 seconds. (lol, commercials)
3: Are they effected by computer monitors/TV?
4: Does it really offer any advantage besides being cool?
5: How much more are then they normal lenses?
6: Is it easy to get used to?
7: Has it ever caused you a problem? Being too dark to read a road sign or something?
9: Worth it for the price, compared to prescription sunglasses?
8: Other comments you might have?

Also why the **** are frames so expensive, all they are is a thin strip of ****ing metal WTF!? I didn't even get designer frames last time and they were 80.00.
I mean I can almost understand why lenses are expensive being as they get special treatment compared to normal glass but WTF!?

Thanks.

PS: If I go with lense craftes, and it turns out I don't like them can I exchange the light sensitive lenses for normal ones??

This is what health insurance is for. All I have is optionals cover (dental, optical, etc) and I buy a new pair ever second or third year.

I believe they're called Transitions lenses. Don't really know much about them other than that.

Mine.

They're super strong.

Government glasses.

Like Radar O'Reiley from M*A*S*H. :|

I've got transitions and they're great. It's a quick gradual change, you don't even notice. Not effected by screens. Advantages - no bright glare or squinting, UV protection. I think it added about $60 to the price. Very easy to get used to. They don't really get dark in a car. Only real 'problem' I've experienced is if you're out in the cold for a while and come indoors they take longer to "de-darken". I would much rather have these than mess around with a second pair. I doubt if you could exchange them, but maybe, ask 'em. Get Flexon, too, if you want to go for broke.

Transitions lenses

1: Does anybody have experience with them?
Had them about four or five years

2: Do they change fast enough when you go outside/return indoors, I heard they take like 30-60 seconds to change? The commercials show about 3 seconds. (lol, commercials)
They seem to change fast enough outdoors but not when you go back inside. It's dark for a while when you go in. Whenever I have a meeting indoor with anyone slightly important who doesn't know me, I try to get there a few minutes early and wait around in the restroom so my glasses can change back to normal. Seriously.

3: Are they effected by computer monitors/TV?
Nope

4: Does it really offer any advantage besides being cool?
I wasn't aware it was "cool" :p. The only reason I get them is because they automatically come with the UV protection, and for some reason Transitions lenses are covered by my insurance whereas UV protection without the Transitions is not.

5: How much more are then they normal lenses?
I can't remember.

6: Is it easy to get used to?
Yes although the time it takes to turn clear indoors can be annoying. Another weird thing is that they trigger to go dark even when it's cloudy/rainy/not very bright outside. I can't remember if it's IR or UV that makes it go dark, but the radiation is not blocked by clouds so it may look like you're wearing gray sunglasses outside even though it's not that bright.

7: Has it ever caused you a problem? Being too dark to read a road sign or something?
Nope. They don't get as dark as normal sunglasses.

9: Worth it for the price, compared to prescription sunglasses?
I'm not sure what prescription sunglasses cost these days. It probably costs less than getting two separate pairs of glasses, one regular and one sunglasses. Maybe not if you are keeping the same frame and only getting new sunglass lenses? I dunno. But they don't get as dark as normal sunglasses, if you happen to like the really dark sunglasses.

8: Other comments you might have?
It probably sounds like I really hate the Transitions, but they're not all that bad. The only thing I really dislike about them is my own perceived embarrassment when I feel like I'm wearing sunglasses in inappropriate situations.

Also why the **** are frames so expensive, all they are is a thin strip of ****ing metal WTF!? I didn't even get designer frames last time and they were 80.00.

I don't know. $80.00 is not bad. My parents' insurance covers higher than that. The only ones I can find that look decent on me are usually around $100-$120. And they aren't even made very well anymore. I have to check the screws on the lens part and the arm parts pretty often because they keep getting loose.

Thanks.
No prob.

No idea, just call and ask them.

I've been wearing glasses since I was about 8 or 9. I just got some new red frames last week. For those of you who haven't seen the pics of me wearing them in the Dirty Mugshots thread, here is another pic:

It's really just an excuse for me to camwhore!!!

I wear glasses. Although just for driving and reading and things. I'm also interested in the transition lenses, however, they're just stupidly expensive. Plus I can't justify it as I have a pair of nice sunglasses.

Those frames really suit you Iron Kat. Square frames ftw. By the way, your post count is 1337.

I used to about 5 years ago, I've since gotten contact lenses.

Another random question, but do you find that having contact lenses gets expensive? I'm a poor university student, however, I really would love to wear contact lenses. My eyesight is not that bad, so I don't wear glasses all the time. However, it is just bad enough to be an annoyance when I'm not wearing my glasses.

It can get a bit expensive, but then again I buy packs of 28 lenses, 1 sets usually lasts me about a month before I change them.
Prices usually range from $20 to $30, in my case I pay $30 for a pack of 28 lenses and cleaning fluid.

I think it really depends on what you buy, I use Acuvue Oasy... gives you protection from UV rays which is good for me since I'm out in the sun alot.

Been wearing 'em for a while but strictly for home or when I go out to grab some quick food. Anything else, I just wear contacts.

Get Drew Carey glasses, they are so strong you can use them as a weapon.

And no, I don't wear glasses. (nerds! joking!)

I used to wear glasses in elementary school. But I lost them, and I haven't worn glasses or contacts since. For some reason my eyes don't need them anymore.

I've worn contacts for over 15 years. With my insurance, I pay $45 for 12 pair. I change them every 2 weeks.

I've heard that the reactive lenses that change shade when you go between light and dark areas are actually really bad for your eyes because it means that your eyes no longer have to adjust to light as much and it makes them go lazy and then when you don't wear the glasses it takes ages for your eyes to adjust.

I have glasses, but I sat on them and they broked.
:(

Ah thanks mate. I thought it'd be a lot more expensive. I might head to the opticians tomorrow.

:(

How broked? I accidently ran into a cupboard door last week (errr...yeah) and mine were horrifically bent but Boots fixed them for me for free.

One of the thingies that keep them on your ears is off... don't even know where it is. The other one is bent and loose.

lense craftes fixed my dads glasses when one of those fell off, go ask.

Yeah, got mine at lens crafters. Just haven't gotten around to going there.

Used to get mine at lenscrafters, but then they did something to piss my mom off so now we go to Costco or whatever.

Dirty Glasseshots ftw.

And Pesh, don't encourage the girl.

Three pictures in one thread about glasses? You are indeed a camwhore.

Yes I am!!!! And i'm probably also heading towards InfractionCity for this. MODS, PLEASE DON'T GET ANY IDEAS!!!
The second pic was for Pesh, though.

I think Pesh and Iron Kat are hitting it off pretty well...
