This is the exact reason us atheists dislike religion. People become so close minded that when you tell them you don't believe in god it's like you have called their girlfriend fat. They take it personally and begin to attack you even though you have done absolutely nothing wrong. I just don't understand why people can argue all day about their beliefs in politics yet when it comes to your beliefs in the cosmos and the origin of life it becomes a personal matter that is rude to even bring up.

Not exactly true. There is a long list of felonies that immediately disqualify you from joining the military. http://www.army.com/resources/item/2150

Gang affiliation can also disqualify, just like white supremacists can be rejected. Rejection is based on the recruiter interview.

A friend of mine was rejected from the Army when we signed up together after 9/11 because he had an Iron Cross tattooed on his shoulder. They thought he was a white supremacist, but he wasn't.
