I mean wow... I bought it yesterday, started playing hung over this morning, and as i slowly recoverd, i realized what a awesome game this is. So violent and just plain fun! Just as good as the first with more awesome finishes.
My 2 favorite games of all time. Seriously.

i just bought it yesterday too o_0 so far so good..

The game is awesome all the way through. Its my favorite console game ever.

Very boring. Endless hordes of the same bad guy charging at you. Press the same button over and over to kill them. Can't move to the next area until all the bad guys are dead.

I'd rather play Streets of Rage than this overrated linear tripe.

I ordered Gow2 and 1 off gameplay, which is the most awesome games site to buy off if you're in the UK. GoW2 came the next day, even though I ordered it at 11pm at night. I was just comepletely amazed.

Anyway the game is just brill. The epic fight at the beginning is just epic. I have completed the first now and am onto the second and the story is also amazing. This could be a film.

I recommend it to anyone with a PS2.

Gameplay as good as the first but story was worse.

I agree with the "Press the same button over and over to kill them" because the combat system in the game is still pretty weak to me. One combo to rule them all for each weapon. I spent 90% of the game hitting, Triangle with the hammer.

It was also too easy still. I'll stick with DMC games for action-fighting games.

Kratos also REALLY annoys me. He's just a stupid tyrant bitch that has to have everything his way. I'll take the lame remarks from Dante in DMC3 over Kratos any day.

I think the bosses where not so great and yes the story was not that great considering the simple but cool story of the first one

I agree.

SPOILERS

The whole thing with Kratos being able to control fate and time travel opened up so many ****ing plotholes it's ridiculous. Seriously, why not just go back and prevent yourself from killing your family in the first place ... or a billion other things that make a lot more sense that what he wound up doing. And that ending ... with him riding the Titan ... it was pseudo cool but it was also really silly. And the "To Be Continued" ending was the most distasteful cop out I've seen in a long time. Granted the first was pretty silly too, with Pandora's Box simply powering up Kratos like a goddamn Power Ranger morph, still better than GoW2 though.

/SPOILERS

Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing game with gameplay that definitely surpasses the original in most ways. The story is also phenomenally better than 95% of all other games as well, just not as good as the first.

Well, what's there to stop him timetraveling back to save you know who in the third? I can't wait for the next game. Awesome.

If you find it too easy with just doing the same combos try god or Titan mode... If you try those button mashing there your in for some harsh time.

God this is so true. Not only that, and you and you the rest of the folks here probably won't agree with me on this.
But imo he is one of the most retarted unsympathetic heroes I have ever seen. And it's not necessarily because he is a badguy, tommy vercetti is a bad guy, but you can appreciate him, he works his way up,you can admire him in a ****ed up way, he isn't full of shit.

Kratos on the other hand is a sissy that went out on a murder spree, killing thousands, got defeated by a ****ing barbarian and chickened out and begged a god for help.
Then go's on killing more men, women and children, and somehow when he kills his own family I'm supposed to feel bad for him, and relate to his guilt, to his quest for his wife.
And then he go's on an even larger killing spree. The game makes me fight a ****ing hydra to rescue a dude and kratos proceed to kill him, and again I'm supposed to feel some kind of pity, some kind of connection with with this guy, and his situation. Then he gets to be a god, and he constantly pisses, and downright humiliates gods, kills their subjects by the thousands, and is surprised and angry they ****ing want to kill him, and I myself am even more surprised that pathetic slut of a goddess Athena still shows mercy and understanding for the dip shit.

Now I would not mind if he found his wife and kid, and the killed them and showed his true face, and the rest of the franchise we got to be an uberevil god, or if he became a nice guy. But I ****ing hate to be confronted by the shear and utter stupidity of his character, his situation, and his motivation. I mean when I actually feel more for his enemies, and actually want them to kill him in a really horrible and painful way then something is really wrong here.

I know! Kratos is a total asshole. But he's still ?ber cool and it's a great game.

I would agree that he's a bit unsympathetic, and not a likable or identifiable character in the slightest. That isn't really the point though. He's a brutal and out of control tyrant, and the only way he knows how to act is through violence. It's fun to let loose and play a character that's totally unburdened by morals or principles. He's a despicable human being that only craves power and revenge ... and that works pretty well in the context of an action game protagonist. Not to mention it fits in quite well against the backdrop of Greek mythology too.

I never played GOW 1. I'm playing through GoW 2 now and I love it. I know the whole story of GoW 1 though, so is it still worth going through and playing?

I agree with this, like I said I would not mind if he just killed his wife and daughter and showed his true face. I did not mind being a evil god in Black & White. But they need to stop the whole he's angry because he got betrayed by the gods thing as the reason for his behavior. When you contrast his supposed motives with his actions the hypocrisy levels just rise dramatically to shear and utter stupid heights. I mean there is not a word that does not come out of his mouth that does not make me want to bang my head against the wall. Still one of the best games ever made though.

P.S. Jesus ****ing Christ I sound like Salmon talking about Resident Evil 4

Kratos is not supposed to be a pitiable character. He is bent on vengeance and will stop at nothing to achieve it.

Yes, he could travel back in time to stop himself from killing his family, but he'd rather kill Zeus for wronging him. That's the whole point of Kratos's character; he doesn't think ahead and he doesn't plan things through. This isn't a rational person we are talking about. He's a prideful, angry son of a bitch and there's something appealing about that. It's better than those emo anti-heroes in Japanese RPGs. The best part of Kratos is that he has ZERO redeeming qualities.

Well, all the other gods where frezing him out up on Olympus, but Kratos didn't need the love from petty gods etc. So he sent his soldiers on military campaigns he had started as a mortal. Zeus saw him as a threat and thought he wanted power over Olympus, thus killing him. Betrayal!

"A choice from the gods are as useless as the gods themselfs." Obviously he don't like the other gods, for not releasing him from his horrible memories. Killing his family was a trick that Aries pulled, wanting to make Kratos a better warrior.
