Ok,
I'm thinkin about makin the switch, anyone here done it? Did you have a hard time? I'm just not really gettin into guitar, i like more mellow, slowish music.
I don't think you should find it too hard. I can play both, and I found when I started playing the bass, it came to me pretty quickly because of my guitaring background. The most important though, is to have fun, and learn your scales
yes I have...Trust me its easy, its just like playing the top four strings :O
Actually, its not quite like that. But it is the same principle, you just have to learn a bit more rhythm I suppose, learn how to keep a beat going for prolonged periods of time. Playing a guiter, you should be able to do the more fancy stuff like solo's...
Heh, I know what you mean but bass guitarists are in high demand, plus you can still get some tunes out of a bass if you want. After all, you still have 4 strings, albeit thick heavy strings but strings none the less!
You can't say that Bass is slow, and guitar is fast. Blues is generally slow guitar playing, funk is generally fast bass playing. Rock is generally fast guitar playing, rock is generally fast bass playing. It's hard to place it in a box. Either way, I play guitar and my dad plays bass. And he ain't playing slow, mellow music! It's fast, funky, and there's plenty of slapping involved!
Make sure you find a simple bass line to get started with, and play it over and over...I don't even remember what one I learned first....but a friend of mine recently picked up the bass and he loves the "White Stripes - Seven Nation Army" bass line...it's pretty simple
I play bass/guitar/drums Id say Bass is the best for expressing your self. I mean its really easy to compose a bassline that will express how you feel.
My friends usually tell me bass is boring and it only has four strings compared to six... usually theese people have no idea what the term music theory is because in the end it doesnt really matter how many strings you have, just matters on the person playing
heres another tip try to keep your mind open to all types of bassist dont just listen to "punk rock bass" try to listen to jazz/funk/slap and pop/rock because thats really the only way you will begin to develop your own techniques...
Theese are amazing bassist.
Flea ( sometimes overrated but good none the less )
Stu Hamm
Victor Bailey
Jaco Pastorius
and some others I cant think of ><
bass doesnt ahve to be boring. i was watching some videos from a concert in sweeden i think it was. and the guy on bass did some amazing stuff that i could only hope of doing on a guitar.
STFU I bet youve never played a guitar in your life ever. If you say bass is boring have you ever listened to Stu Hamm's Terminal Beach or something along the line of Jaco.. if you havent then dont bother posting stupid shit like bass is boring, just to get one more post in your post count. Bass is only going to be as fun as you make it just as anything will.
I learned to play bass first. After a few years I made the tranistion to guitar with great ease. I always recommend that people do it that way. Not sure about your situation though. I'm sure you'll pick it up just fine. BUT PLEASE LEARN TO PLAY WITH YOUR FINGERS!!! DON'T USE A PICK FOR BASS.
