Going to US. What should I see?

Alright me and my family are going to US in a week and a half.
First Stop is N.Y., and Phillidelphia on the east coast
then on the west coast were going to Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
So Ive a question for all of you US citizens. What should we go and see in each city? any good resturants, shops, etc.

If you go through St. louis, you have to stop by the arch. (Don't go up though, the line takes for ****ing EVAR!)

It's a once in a lifetime thing, as in, once you go, you never really want to go back, but it's a neat experience, and it's free. And if you are near Alton, you should go by and see the lifesize statue of the Alton Giant, the tallest man it recorded history.

Otherwise, don't go to L.A. You will regret it.

New York is kind of an experience of its own. Theres no shortage of travel stuff that can point out good ideas far better than I can, but it'll be interesting no matter what.

Honestly, some of the coolest stuff I've seen in the US isn't on the coastlines. Rocky Mountain National Park, the Badlands in South Dakota, Yellowstone park in Wyoming.

In spite being an American, I haven't been to any of these cities, so I can't really help you there.

There are a lot of things to do in New York though. Its not only the biggest city in America, but also its tourist capitol. The only things I know of in Philli are the liberty bell + liberty hall. Las Vegas = casinos and cool hotels. Los Angeles = Hollywood and plenty of other entertainment-related tourist sites.

eh its like this at Universal Studios as well with the long lines, overpriced stuff, and huge crowds. If anything Disney has the advantage with this neat little fast pass thing that works pretty well.

But yeah theres tons of shit in New York to do. Also right across the river in Hoboken theres some really great places to eat, and they're probably a bit cheaper then most of the places in NYC.

Also, check out Kings Canyon or Big Trees state parks - the largest trees (as in, mass, but they're really damn tall, too) in the world. Three of the five tallest are here as well. Also, Monterey/Big Sur are generally pretty areas. Here's a pic of a rather large specimen in Big Trees (note: this tree is around 300' tall)

It's a vast place with so many places to see. I want to live in NY, LA be Kit Carson & make a million. You'd never leave North America & you'd still be turning up trumps. If you goto Philly climb the rocky steps & skate the Love Park for me. Visit NY's MoMA & bet on black in LV. LA...well, represent that! Gotta be cash!

I say make 0 plans on what you want to do and just see it all sporaticly. Hit up the ghetto/slums, the midwest for some beautiful sunsets and countryside.. oh and go see a MONSTER TRUCK SHOW. im sure they dont have those overseas....

Again thanks for the repies. As what regards money/ dollars its no problem for the danish / european people at the time. The dollar is so cheap that its insane. if you could imaginge. Normally 1$ is 8 DKK (danish kroners) now its nearly the half (4,6)

Northern Mississippi and mid-state MS isn't a bad place tbh, just don't go near the gulf. All those cities in that area are nothing but ghettos.

Awww, why does everybody hate LA for, its my home. Visit Yosemite if it is possible, its jawesome, i'm going later this year.

Some tips:
-Bring something to read while sitting in traffic.
-Sit back and enjoy the heat wave (averaging 93-104 degrees in certain areas, but its died down a little)
-Stay OUT of the following areas: Skid Row (eastern Downtown LA i believe) Compton, watts, crenshaw (of course) Macarthur park (mostly at night though), pretty much south LA, trust me on this.

I don't know about your tastes, but i like animals, so i would suggest visiting the LA zoo and Long Beach Aquarium, there really nice, and i think the LA zoo finished its construction projects. There are plenty of places to eat, just depends on what you want to eat, hell get some Chicken and Waffles!

Here's something else that's fun to do:

1. Go to a Dodger game with Angels or San Francisco gear on
2. Take pictures of the crowd around you and their reactions
3. ???
4. profit

...seriously, don't do this unless you wanna get heckled, splashed with beer, have nachos thrown at you, or have your family and/or self called various names that aren't nice, but man is it fun to do!

This is why LA sucks.

NY is worth spending time in. Everybody thinks people are assholes there, but I've had the opposite experience. When I was there last year everybody we randomly stopped and talked to for questions or whatever was really friendly. Some people even stopped and gave us a quicker directions while we were waiting for a slow bus once without us even asking for help. People in the service industry were a little snippy...but that's kind of expected. Sitting in a hot NY metro booth for like 14 hours a day would piss me off too.

If you plan to see the Statue of Liberty, don't bother with the actual ferry and tour if you just want a decent view of it. Lines were obscenely long when I was there in August. We just took the free ferry to Staten Island which goes close to the Statue. You also get a great skyline view of the city from the ferry. When we got across we just jumped straight into the line to go right back. Cheaper (free), faster, and we got some great skyline pictures.

Go to Joshua Tree National Desert in California. It's really a nice place if you like reptiles and rock-climbing. I even caught a Chuckwalla there a couple years ago, which is the third largest lizard in the U.S. (however it was just a baby). but this year for easter we went again and i saw a fully grown one. They're HUGE.

Colorado's a nice placve too. Alot of mountanie areas and quiet, quaint towns.

and if you have alot of money for the trip, Hawaii is a good place as well
