hi all,

my computer was wiped on saturday, while i was absent.

so i say goodbye to all my music, games, maps (hl2 single player)
ect....

bu8t the thing that is bugging me is how my games run now, ive reinstalled hl2 and rome total war, they worked perfectly before, now hl2 is darker, i can sometimes see through walls and it stutters.

rome total war worked like my comp was a god, but now it stutters like crazy, i mean even the ativison logo and the intro vid lag, then everything goes kaput laggy mode and i get pissed off (excuse my french).

i just dont get it, it HAS to be my video card,

i have an ati radeon 9200 series (is that good? ive always thought so but im not sure).

ANY help would be greatly appreciated because this is ****ing up my entire gaming world,

cheers

while you were reinstalling everything, did that include DirectX 9.0c and the Catalyst drivers. www.ati.com there is a new version out.
im real sorry to hear about your loss, i happened to me just recently too. these things happen, just gonna have to live with it, and regurarly(i cant spell) back up to hard copy.

im not sure, cos you see i wasnt there when all this happened.
i was out paintballing for the first time ever.

BUT should i download those new drivers, and if so where too?
cos im crap at these things, and i really cant afford to mes anything up (my dad will kill me, lots).

go to "start>>run" and type in "dxdiag.exe" - this will show your dx version at the bottom of the "system" tab, you can also see other info, plus you can test dx i think - *looks*.

then right click on "my computer" and click "properties" - go to the "hardware" tab and click "device manager" - now expand the "display adapters" menu in the new window and click on your primary (or only) adapter, it should say "radeon 9200 series" or similar - now click on the "driver" tab in the new window and let us know the details - provider, date and version:)

6.14.10.6396

that help?

well mine are 6.14.10.6396, so you can't be that out of date, what DirectX version are you running, if you are using 9.0c then you have the latest on and could use "drivercleaner" to remove the old drivers and install the latest ones from www.ati.com :)

Actually look at the year of the drivers.
Tons of things have 6.14.something throughout the driver area.
So common.

So he is infact quite out of date on his drivers.

Update your drivers, new display drivers should fix you up. ati.com for those, pretty easy to find and install, unless you want to clean out your old ones first, which can be a bit of a hassle.

I know your pain on the wipe - I had to format recently to solve a blue screen problem. It made my comp unbootable, and even now that it's fixed, the blue screen problem remains, and nothing works like it did. Half my devices are still unidentified.

Don't worry about screwing up your comp...someone already screwed it up almost as bad as they could, now you're just trying to get it back on track :farmer:
