So I was thinking, right now in the world economy, especially in the US, there is a demand for 3D artists. More of a demand than most other tech industries. Demand results in more aspiring artists, and more mods in turn. Are we in a golden age? I'm not suggesting that it's going to end, because this is only the beginning of 3D art, but this is a catalyst for an increased number of mods. Students of 3D art mostly, are the ones who model for mods as far as I can tell. Semi-professionals or professionals model to increase their portfolio, get their work out, among other reasons.

Golden age for mods...more free games...more people playing...more people spending money....

very good for the tech industry! it could quite counter the losses caused by pirating

what do you guys think?

I think it means every idiot with a computer, a peer file sharing program, and a copy of UT2004 or Half-Life wants to make his own counterterrorism realism mod.

So true, lol!!!

At any rate, modding is flexing your muscles. So of course 3D modellers want to try it, personally I've learned a ton of 3D modelling by gaming.
A few years ago, this was basicly what I could do:

(well I could do a little more detail than that, but you get the idea).
Today I can do this: http://w1.855.telia.com/~u85528876/vbl1.jpg (MG from BF1942 though).

Its not really a golden age for mod... Its just that we can finally express ourselves :)

hmm, actually there's an over saturation of 3D artists in the world right now. Not a demand for it, there are many talented 3D artists out of work because so many are doing it.

Same goes for concept design and other area's.
