What are some of you guys suggestions on mobos for AMD cpus? im getting a athlon xp 2800+ and was planning on getting an Abit kd7 motherboard, which runs on the kt400 chipset. I like that board a lot, but its beginning to get out dated. i hear nforce2 chipsets are really good, so what ever mobos all you guys think are really good for AMD post em here.

i dont think i want to buy a biostar, but keep the suggestions coming.

Im leaning towards Abit and ASUS, since i hear there pretty much the 2 best.

dude, i hear so many people disappointed over their Abits and Asus boards

believe me, Biostar really is the best, had two of them, absolutely great boards, most definitely the best out of all the systems i've played on

Dissapointed over Abit and Asus? I doubt it. I suggest you go for the abit NF7-S.

well, compare that to biostar, i've never heard of somebody disappointed over a biostar

and don't doubt it, there are many instances where corsair memory won't work with asus boards, where fans won't spin on abit boards, i've heard it all, but i've never heard of this stuff with biostar

biostar makes some real quality stuff

If you want the best stability, and a real quality board, go with the NF7-S, or A7N8X-DX. Ive never heard of corsair not working with asus boards. Corsair works FLAWLESSLY with asus boards from what ive read. Read some more reviews then compare them to biostar. Any board you buy has a chance of something not working right. It just may be that exact board you recieve, defective.

asus and abit.....make better boards than biostar.......more stable, faster and higher quality

well, apparently i'm the only one here who doesn't listen solely to reviews...

i think im actually going to stick with the Abit KD7 mobo, i really like these boards and with the other parts im getting the kt400 chipset shouldnt hold me back at all. Even though the kt400 isnt as 'old' as im making it sound.

If i find out more about the NF7-S 2.0 and its on board audio i might switch.

Its on-board audio is nVidia Soundstorm. You will definitely be happy with that, believe me. Whats your speaker set-up? Cause if you only have like 2.1 it doesnt even matter.

abit nf7-s is good for overclocking due to it not being like the asus where u can go past 1.85 on the vcore without a hardware mod.
however the asus a7n8x deluxe has 400mghz "supported", onboard sound(very good quality), no bridge fan so no worries about it ging out, very safe and stable. and is for none to above average overclock. i prefer the a7n8x deluxe myself but its a personnal decision. i suggest u read the reviews at newegg on both boards, read them and professional reviews.

1 of the things that drew me away from the NF7-S is the fact that the ATX connecter is in the middle left of the board and that meand i would have to route the big bulky wires over top of the cpu cooler toneing down its performance. I think for this computer i will go with the Abit KD7 which has a great lay out and is very stable etc. With all my other parts my set up wont do me wrong, i should be blazzin at max settings with a great fps for every game out and most likly every game for the next 8-12 months. The only dissadvantage i see stickign with the KD7 is that i would just have to upgrade sooner. Maybe 1 1/2 - 2 years insted of 2-3. But thats ok cause by then i am going to upgrade to the absolute best parts out, unlike im doing now. Mainly because of money.

the A7N8X-DX is probally the best amd board on the market. However, if money is tight, the epox 8rda+ is a very basic motherboard and works like a charm for me. And there are a million options inbetween. I would suggest NOT getting kt-400. They are out dated and lack dual channel memory support. dual channel can get you 4-10% preformance increase over stadard ddr. What it does is it doubles the number of ram channles, so each memory cycle it takes in 2 bits and sends out 2 bits of data. ddr only takes in 1 bit and sends out 1 bit each cycle, and SD (who doesnt love pc133?) takes 1 bit in a cycle, and sends one out the next. ddr2 basically does the same thing as dual channle, but thats not for a little while anyways. Memory should break the effctive 1 ghz level by 2006 i belive.

I do not know how i got on the topic of memory when i was suggesting a mothboard. Holy shit. it must be the fact that it is 5 in the morning here and i havent got any sleep yet.

Well if you dont like the NF7-S then research then A7N8X- Deluxe. Like other people said, KT400 is a bad choice.

Ok, i guess i was just being niave (or how ever its spelled) but i looked at the ASUS A7N8X-DX and im very impressed. I switched the Abit kd7 to the ASUS A7N8X-DX and changed my pc2700 ram to pc3200.

The price, well it was only like $50 more than the KD7. Insted of ordering 1024ddr pc3200 i decided just to get 512ddr 3200. I do intend to get another 512 stick though, probly a month after i get everything working.

The SoundStorm on board audio gets good reviews, i only use headphones any way. Im sure it can be disabled in the BIOS anyway if i dont like it. thanks guys
